Here is an idea for some machinest genius. You know the gold color decals on the side cover that say eitehr America or Speedmaster. How about a genuine chrome emblem replacement instead of a sticker that seems almost outof place. The gold color doesnt match anything and the style doesnt really match much either. So maybe someone can do something like these out of polished aluminium or chromed material? Maybe something a little bit more 3D like the Triumph logo on our tanks? Just a thought, Soren

I like your idea! Altho the gold does match the pin stripe around the silver on my tank...

You are right. I forgot about the gold pinstriping. Having an all black bike, it slipped my mind.

it would be sweet if the America followed the line of the triumph logo. copyright infringement stuff in mind, of course.

That would cost a lot to make on a CNC. The programming would be a nightmare. But if it got done I order one of the first. Well? Someone? Anyone?

Hi Soren, You are the computer artist - go for it. There are several folks here that will justify your initial expense. I love them both - but I got a gold decal from Bengt that matches the pin stripe on tank very well. I plan on using it. I would also consider using chrome lettering. Looks Great, Dennis

Hey Dennis,
Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between trying to design something on the computer and making it real (for me anyway). It's just an idea that I wanted to throw out there and see what happened.

You'd be amazed what they can do with CNC nowadays. It's not like someone would have to manually program every curve and line, there are CAD programs that can generate CNC programs from a model, been there, done that, got the key-chain from the demo, ya know?

Haha well I tell you what, I'll ask around to some of my buddies who still have access to CNC stuff and see what the scoop is. I have an OLD copy of SolidWorks, but I don't think it has all the add-ons to do CNC programs.

Hiya Soren
I know what you mean about the original graphics - I had my side panel stripped of the decal and repainted blue approx 18 months ago now.
Back to the guy on e-bay: His right-up says 'you won't be dissapointed' which suggests he has made / is making them.
Am I being too cautious but why no 'photo then .... ?

Adey,
My side panel says Bonneville America. Kinda rare, so I'll keep it till it is dust in the wind. Need new throttle cables before decals.
Re the lack of pics: It may well be that Chrome and Gold are real hard to photograph. Especially flat decals. But hey, once you get yours, photograph it for us!

Hiya Moe
I thought the original 'America' decal had a real 'WH Smith' quality about it ....

He's had it a day and he doesn't have stock yet?
He'd better get a move on to cope with the demand off this site alone
Let us know how you get on mate.

Can't seem to follow your hint.
W.H.Smith & Sons (Tools) Ltd is a supplier of plastic injection mould components and assemblies. (interesting that they could very well have manufactured the side covers...) while
WH Smith, the high street retailer is best known for its chain of high street and railway station shops selling books, stationery, magazines, newspapers, and entertainment products.
Sooo,
WH Smith the retailer, is your Wally World?

WH Smith the high street retailer sells all manner of stationary including sticky kids letters etc .. geddit?
Loses a bit in the writen word I s'pose.
I'm sitting here imagining your blank expression thinking "what's this idiot doing talking about plastic injection moulding!!!??"
(Ok, there is a tenuous link with the plastic of the side cover but I'm not smart enough to know about the plastic company ...)

Here is the design I did for my tank badges. I haven't had them done yet. I am going to use a wire EDM machine at work. I thought about machining it but I can't get the corners as sharp because you need to use an end mill to machine it. With the wire you can get very tight radii. I figure I am going to do it in stainless and then have it electropolished. My machinist tells me I am going to need to take into account the curvature of the tank for this to work right Shouldn't be a problem on a wire edm. This was designed using Autodesk Inventor 9. I am told that the programming can be a little tricky but not too difficult.
(P.S. I did not use any copyrighted material to generate this. )

I got the decal in the mail yesterday. It looks pretty good. Unfortunately I noticed that it isnt going to be as easy as removing the old decal and putting on a new one since Triumph applied clear coat on the side cover after applying the Speedmaster decal.
