I just picked up the Rider 2 and have been using it on battery. Thus far, I love it. Now I want to wire it in with the included plug. Seen Here Any suggestions as to where I should wire it? I'd like it to be switched, I suppose. What about fuses? Should I just hook it directly to the battery terminals? It wouldn't be switched then.

I got the accessory plug and use that for my GPS BUT its not switched...its a constant. I wired my gloves and ligth bar in similar manners...fused at the battery but thru a relay for each one so that they operate when the key is on only and off when the key is off.

I wired my Garmin Zumo, custom front marker lamps & voltage gauge to the 5A circuit in the headlamp bucket (used to connect to the "peanut bulb.") That was a useless item for me, but at least it gave me a nice switched 5A circuit to use!

That sounds good, but I'm not sure what it means.

What that means is you can disconnect the peanut bulb in the headlamp bucket, and use the existing 5A fused, switched wiring to power your Tom Tom rider!

I apologize for being a complete and utter idiot. I don't know what a peanut bulb is. The only bulb I'm aware of is a headlamp bulb, and I think I need that connected.

Turn your key on and then sort of push in and turn it one more click it will turn on the parking light very dim little light bulb. I not sure if it is on during the regular on position of the switch. But that is the bulb he is talking about being the peanut bulb.

Awesome. Thanks. I would assume it's on during the regular operation of the switch or it wouldn't be hot to power the GPS.
I'll take a look at it tomorrow. This site never fails to deliver.

Popcorn explained it well, it's the parking lamp "peanut' bulb in the headlamp housing I'm referencing. It's a small 194 style bulb that is about useless. The wiring that it connects to is hot whenever the ignition is on. Loookie, lookie, a free 5A (fused) switched power source right up front where you need it! Jim

I see the bulb you're talking about. It's on during normal operation. Does that matter? Is it going to adversely affect my lights? I can't imagine that it adds much to the night time visibility.
ETA: Working on it now. That's super easy. One question: Red to brown?

Dude, that light is useless, period. I can't remember what's hot (just got back from a 300 mile ride and I'm beat!) Get out you're VOM.

For the wiring of my Zumo 550, I spliced into the same wiring for that wee headlamp bulb in the headlamp housing.
Incidentally, I replaced that wee bulb with an ultra-white LED bulb...nice effect IMHO.
