So, I downloaded the iTunes program and I am playing with it ripping some CDs and converting some w4a files into mp3 files. Does anyone know if there is a way to set this program up to save the files names as "artist name-song name"? I know how to do it with Windows Media Player. The default with iTunes is "track # song name".

I don't think so - I just looked on Google and couldn't find anything.

I don't think you can. If you need the file naming convention more than you need itunes, I recommend CDEX for ripping CDs. You can configure the filenames anyway you like. But as soon as you import them into itunes, I believe it will assimilate the filenames as it copies them into it's own music folder.

Thanks. I mostly use Windows Media Player to rip CDs. I am mostly using iTunes to convert some W4As into MP3s. That naming convention is just what I prefer, especially when I browsing through compilation albums.

Soren, I don't think this will help and would be quite a chore, but, I think the only way to manually name a file w/ a pod is to create play lists. I don't think this is what you want though...

What I am going to do is just write a vbscript to go through those directories and rename those files.

Just stick with Windows Media, it's way better. I have gone through 4 iPods and used iTunes will all of them. Just keep using Windows Media and use Zune, way more reliable imho.

Maybe this isn't what you're asking but iTunes automatically sorts the music library by Artist name and you choose ascending or descending alphabetical order by clicking the column bar.
