So I'm ready to plunge - got the loan arranged, and taking a test-ride on Tuesday - 2008 America. (Fuel injected here in the Great White North). I do a big tour each year with some buddies, so tank range is important to me. Can anyone give me a heads-up as to how many miles I should be able to get before the fuel light flickers, or I have to switch to reserve. The '08 is a 19 litre tank but some of that is taken up by fuel pump.

FYI, I tend to moderate the right wrist a little, the better to enjoy the scenery going by.........

Any advice anyone can offer would be much appreciated, especially from anyone riding a fuelly already.

On the old ones I used to look for a petrol station around the 150 mile mark, "that is MPH" on the new EFI no idea, but give me a couple of weeks and I will tell you..

I try to refuel before getting to reserve but Ive seen 135-140 miles before reserve with 50/50 city/highway driving. Straight highway has been over 150 miles

I have been able to stech my tank to 180 miles before i hit reserve, conservative shifting and constant speeds of 55 mph helped with that i'm sure. On average i get 155-165 on a tank before i get to the reserve.

I go into reserve at 135 or so, but I have the 904BB installed. I honestly didn't get much better before though. What do your buddies ride? If they are on Cruisers you should be just fine. If they are on beemers or wings you willneed gas much more often than they do.

Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

i should think i would be looking for a petrol station much sooner at the 150MPH mark!

A bunch of us are coming through Vernon, or nearby, on the way to the Kootenay Raid in Nelson, either on July 15th or 16th. You should join us. It's not too late to register for the event and there always seems to be rooms available at the Best Western.

I would probably trade my '02 in on an EFI-equipped bike if I thought I could get more than 100 miles per tank...

If I'm careful I can get up to 160 miles before I hit reserve. If I'm having fun it's only about 135.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

With the new tank and EFI I'm getting about 170 miles with mixed riding. I would expect to get a little more at a pretty constant cruising speed. Also I've only done about 600 miles on the new bike and if it's anything like my T100 it should improve after a 1000 miles or so.

Nuthin', I ride an FJR right now and am used to 250 miles before the fuel light goes on, so I'm pretty spoiled. My buddies ride Harley's, metric cruisers, and Beemers so it's a mixed bag. Mind you, I'm not above keeping a couple of litres of gas in a safe-can in my bags.

FriarJohn, I wish I could join you but I won't have the America yet, and that weekend is booked for me anyway. If you haven't been this way before, be sure to ride Hwy 6 from Vernon to Nakusp, and the highway between New Denver and Kaslo - absolute world-class twisties and terrific scenery. Great coffee and pie at the Gold Pan cafe on Hwy 6, and super beer and wines in BC for the end of the day................

I've been on the road between New Denver and Kaslo many times, and it's some of the best riding on the continent.

I top off my tank every 135 miles. Giving it the rock test
usually sounds like theres about a gallon left when I do.
Probly could go another 40 miles or so befoe draining reserve.

I'm a moderate rider on unmodified America. Oftend carrying Passenger.

I have the new EFI and you will get over 170 miles before the light flicks on thereafter probably 40 or so miles. Done 2,500 on it and seems to be improving both in terms of performance and MPG.

Enjoy the new ride!

On my 2002 BA, I can count on 40 MPG to and from work. I recently did a 1000 mile trip and I was somewhere around 47 MPG Highway. This is with D&D pipes and a Jet kit.

I HAVE A 02 ALMOST 6 YEARS with almost 55,000 miles. I get arround 40-44 mpg. Alot depends on the gas and where you get it.
I find that if you go to a station, that has pumps w/nozzles for each grade. You get better gas.
With one nozzle you always get a little of what ever the last person got.

With my 06 speedy I could go 185 miles before switching to reserve driving moderately. That was a unique bike. Too bad it didn't survive. My 06 America gets me around 160 miles before reserve.

Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin

Depends.

The M1 Abrams' maximum effective range (120mm cannon) is considered to be 3,000 meters.

I use the 150 mile mark to plan for gas stop. Last tank 49mpg. the one before that 51 mpg. I've been as high as 56 mpg during brake in, not going over 60 mph.

I have just done a 3000 kilometre trip on my 03 BA. Have changed the primary sprocket to the gearing on the new models. Kept a log and got 340 kilometres to the tank. 16.5 according to the handbook and that is travelling arround the 120 kilometre mark. No mods aside from the aftermarket off road exhausts and the factory carb settings. That is over the 200 mile mark and over the 20 kilometres to the litre. No complaints here!
