The mass airflow sensor went bad in my truck so Advanced Autoparts took the order in, I paid for it over the phone...BAM...had it for me the same day, had it waiting for when i got there after work....no problems.

They charge a $50 core fee until you bring the old one back so I took the old one with me to the store to save a trip. Well the guy was confused about how to do it or something and i was there for a while waiting for him to figure out how to put the $50 back on my card. FINALLY...I leave.

The following week I check my bank online and see that the $50 never went in...(sorta expected that) So i call up and they have no idea whats going on, they cant help me, the computer says they gave it to me, check with the bank..."its on your banks end"...blah..blah..blah...Of course i called the bank before them and the bank assured me that its been over a week, the money should definately be in there if Advanced sent it.

So the Advanced manager tells me to call back in an hour, i call back, they say the manager will not be back for another 2 hours...they tell ME to call back again.

I was starting to get a little PO'd so I called back today instead. Of course the manager i was talking to is OFF TODAY..and the lady im speaking with tells me shes gonna call the "regional manager and ask what to do, then call me back"....So while waiting for their call i figured i'd go on the website and look for some contact info and go an email address and i explained the whole story and left my number. Within an hour later a guy calls me, not emails me, and asks for the required info and worked the whole thing out in like 5 minutes...ahah

He tells me I can pick my $50 cash up from the store tonight and he'll phone it in. But wait theres more...I told him that because this money wasnt in my bank account for the past week, my account was overdrawn and the banks charging me a $25 fee for insufficient funds...BAM..."thats not a problem you can pick up $75 cash tonight at the store"

So they made everything right for me and im satisfied. And for the record my bank account isnt overdrawn yet...I assume it will be eventually this week, but he didnt ask for any proof or anything....just no questions asked...PERFECT

Amazing story it came out well in the end. Congrats. I expected you to get your 'core' fee back a different way.

This will blow their minds - once you've verified that you didn't go NSF on your account - take them the 25.00 back . They're used to folks taking advantage of them and honesty baffles them . And you will emerge with your integrity not for sale at any price .

This is about a business making the customer happy. When youre unsatisfied about the service youre recieving a good business goes out of their way to make it right. If I never thought to check my bank account that wouldve been $50 lost for no reason other than the guy couldnt do his job properly. And thats what psses me off about this whole thing. When I spoke to the customer service guy I told him that the people at the store were friendly and tried to help but they kept giving me the run around. He told me there was no excuse on this thing. Refunding a core charge is the most basic thing a cashier should be able to do. And thats why he granted me the $25.

Now if I didnt say a word about a possible overdraft then it happened down the road, I wouldnt have been able to call again and tell them theyre costing me money.

I cannot stand when people cant do their job properly. This guy was a manager who tried refunding me. He wasnt some new kid who made a mistake. And when youre mishandling peoples money it affects alot of things down the road.

Im the guy who drives back to mcdonalds and hands back the half of hamburger that didnt have mayo added to it like i asked.

Im the guy who calls all the little 1-800 numbers on the bottom of the receipt and complains about the service to get a free coupon.

Im the guy who buys tools to do a specific job and then returns them for a refund when Im done.

I dont tip people because i have to and that american pie BS was outsourced years ago.

Nothing to be ashamed of...why have some tool sitting in your basement for the rest of your life not being used? I'd rather have the money in my pocket.

Let's see , you return tools - what a bum thing to do .
You don't tip - see above
You levy (false) complaints to get freebies - see above

American Pie is dead ? Your integrity sold pretty cheap .

Man , I bet folks LOVE to see YOU coming .

I'm done , I'm getting nauseous .

Just living on a budget fellas...I cant eat fast food unless its free...the tool returning thing is a no brainer..haha

No ones sending me welfare checks for doing nothing. Just scraping by and could care less about getting freebies from some billon dollar corporation. Giving these people money back isnt gonna prove a thing to me or to them. It just means I cant ride my bike another 150miles.

Im not gonna tip for horrible service, I tip when people deserve it and not because "i have to". I could care less what people think about me. Thats where I find my integrity.

So you return used tools and expect a full refund? Screw the next person who picks it up expecting a brand new tool and gets your used one, right? (don't even try to qualify it with "it was only used once", it's used). That is pathetic...

Real nice. So what you are doing is exacerbating the problem with the "They're doing it, so I will too" philosophy? Who do you think is paying for welfare and your 'freebie'? What you have done is sunk to the level of a welfare recipient. Sad....

Honestly, instead of trying to defend these practices, perhaps you should reevaluate them?

Everyone just stop already.

Most of you have forgotten the original post. There was a problem with Advanced Auto Parts setting things right and it took a bunch of corespondence to get it done, but Tom was able to finally get in touch with the right peson to set things right was also compensated for the difficulties and inconvience. That's a lot of time and work.
