I like the screw on one on Brent's site but I'm looking for a cheap alternative.

Dr John Wittner of Moto Guzzi fame used temperature sensitive crayons(!) to monitor his racebike's temp.
Each different color would melt at a specific temp.
Don't ask me where to find them, but I bet they're cheaper than a guage.

Where do you suggest I mount my crayons? I found mine at wally world, if you're looking to do the same brian.

I'm sure that Brent's gauge is top notch. I don't think I've ever heard a complaint about any of his products not being quality. I'm just a cheap F'er and try to get things at a lower price if at all possible.

You actually found some? Cool.
As I understand it, they just drew a line on various parts of the bike.
I would guess near the exhaust port, one of the hottest parts of the bike,
and the oil supply line to the oil cooler.
Should give you a good idea of oil temp.

Yeah, but you have to stay within the lines...

Some of the old tricks amaze me. But for now, I think I'll hold off on the multi color experiment and maybe save up for one of Brent's gauges. It just drives me crazy to spend more than what the harley parts seem to cost. One of the things I love about this bike is how much cheaper they are to own than a Harley.
