Hey guys I am saving up for my winter mods and I want to do the big bore and was thinking about the thunderbike cams for the 865 and was just wondering if anyone has done this combo and what kind of power and torque I can expect with these upgrades.. What I am looking for is max low end torque. I rode my fathers harley for a few months and I loved how smooth it shifted due to the torque but thats where it ended lol. My america is clunky if I dont feather it just right. thanks

For the low end torque you want the big bore is the way to go. The cams will give you more upper end = high rpm power. together would be awesom but if all you want is the low end torque go for the Big bore imo.

Tom, see NH dyno's http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...e=0&fpart=4down the page a bit they made up a spread sheet thing listing mods and what their dynos were. Pat was one of the only ones with the big bore but if you had more time you might read thru the pages and see who else had what for torque and hp. With the BB, Pat's torque was at 55 and he had 36mm mikunis for carbs. mike

My bike (05-790) with stock airbox (UNI - no snorkel), stock carbs (drilled slides and adjustable needles), and Specialty Spares showed a torque max. at 66 ft./lbs after the 904 BB. The best part is that it's above 60 ft./lbs. from the mid thirties through the mid fifties. Our goal was max. torque/Hp in the power accelerating range and we definitely got it. I'm using 125 mains and 145 pilot jets. It starts leaning above 6K, but going to bigger mains hurt the midrange. I shift by 6K to stay in my max. torque range.

I seem to recall that TBike says they can't really improve on the stock 790 cams. Stock 865 cams might offer more grunt, but I doubt the tradeoffs would be attractive. If you wanted to try it, though, there are probably lots of 865 owners who'd swap with you.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

Theres much written about doing carb upgrades over cams. Its very sporadic and for the life of me I cant find any of the posts now BUT after reading so many of them it seems there are more folks that lean (and have gone) the way of the BB + carb upgrade over cams. There just doesnt seem to be much "known" info on the cams but plenty of speculation. If Dinqua doesnt chime in here send him a PM. He had some carbs for sale as well so it may turn out to be a win win.
Either way be sure to keep us all posted on your results adn findings.
