Doncha love coming home from work and finding a box full of chrome waiting for you on the front porch? Amongst other things I now am the proud owner of two pairs of large kuryakyn silver bullets to replace the pumpkins. OK, so placing the front ones is easy - they go under the driving lights. The thing I'm trying to work out is wether to put the rear ones in the standard spot (probably a bit closer together) or to mount em on the rear fender either side of the tail light. Personally I think they look better on the fender, but I'm a bit nervous about drilling holes in my baby, and with the jumbo saddlemen bags and the trailer hitch it's a bit crowded back there. The idea of them getting a bit lose and spinning round on the mounting bolts scraping paint off doesn't thrill me much either. Anyhow, any thoughts, opinions, advise, experiences etc will be gratefully recieved - as usual Matt

Hi Matt, Considering the facts that you already have the holes in the license plate bracket and as Benny said not a lot of room behind the bags, my opinion is to use the stock location. I don't know what the mounting options are for the Kuryakyns but threaded pipe might work? Here's an outfit that sells chrome over brass threaded pipe in various sizes by various lengths: http://www.clawfootsupply.com/product401The 3/8" (which is .3750) pipe would definitely work as the stock pipes are 10mm (which is .3937). Here's a pic of one: btw, this was on the first page of a Google search for threaded pipe. I may have to use this company to 'pull' my signals in closer! (Hey! Wasn't this a discussion topic awhile ago? )

Yah, that was my thought too - oh well, they'll still look great in the stock location.

I think I've got that pretty well sussed - I'd planned to put them in the stock location when I ordered so I got a metric mounting kit too - it's a long hollow threaded tube with the 3/8" thread on one end (just long enough to screw into the light) and 10mm on the other (about 2" long), with a "head" between them. Gonna get some chrome spacers to fit over the 10mm part about 1.25" long, screw the lights onto the imperial end. and mount the metric end in the licence plate mounting with a nylock nut. Only concern I have there is that it might be too easy for it to spin, but if it is I'll deal with it at the time.

Nothing major - 20' of chrome strip to go on the edges of the fenders, some chrome wrap to go round the front turn signal wires, and some chrome zip ties to tie it off with - "finishing" bits. Surprisingly the only way I can buy that chrome strip in Australia is in packets of 4 short lengths for putting on the edge of car doors - works ok for the tank but not for the fenders.

I like the stock location myself Matt and plan on doing the same this winter. And yes I love arriving home to find a package, it's like Christmas.

I used the small bullets but put them in the stock location. Mine were the 3/8 " hollow mount and using the supplied Kuryakyn mounting hardware all I needed was a chrome 3/8" nut between it and the light. A 3/4 or 1 inch chrome spacer would look nice too.

Sandmann, Nice ride man! I have a green one too! Your's made me miss mine all the more. I can't wait to get home and ride. I was in Brisbane not more than a month ago. Our ship was in port enjoying some liberty and some d**m fine liberty your folks provided. I look forward to my next time in town. Just thought I would say hi and how I appreciated the Aussie hospitality! Everyone one should do it at least once! OH, and Carnes wasn't bad either.

Yup, I had a try of that and I could do the same thing - think I'll hang out for the 1" chrome spacer though. Put the front ones on tonight, very happy wif it.
Think I need TWO bikes.. one set up as a tourer with the bags etc, and one stripped down single seater.

It's a pity I didn't know you were in town - coulda maybe set you up with a hire bike and shown you some of the local roads.
Glad you enjoyed our little part of the world - I've seen most of Aust, lived in lots of parts of it, but I keep coming back to Bris. And your'e right about Cairns, nice little tourist town, learned to scuba dive there.
Let me know next time you're on this side of the planet

Is that the tall sissy bar? I'm just trying to find pics of tall versus short to help me decide which to get.

Hey Siggy, That is the tall bar. Here's mine for another angle:

Thanks for the info, Sandmann. Originally I thought the short bar had the edge esthetically on the tall (less of a deviation from the mid-point of the bike) but seeing your pictures has changed my mind. In this case, it seems that form AND function can work together Siggy

Hey Phil, just remembered that you've got the same driving lights as me - was wondering if you'd had problems with the "mount" parts of them rusting at all? On mine the light shells are still perfect bust there a lot of surface rust has hit the mounts - gotta take em apart and get em rechromed, or something I guess.

Yep, the bar is a real POS. I think the harsh environment down here aided, though.
I just acquired a 2'x2' sheet of 1/4" plate aluminum and I plan on cutting, bending, and polishing a bar out of that and keep the lights in the same relative position. I believe it will be a much cleaner look too. All I need now is time!!
