For the first 2-3 seconds of a moderate to hard brake, my front end shudders before smoothing out. I checked for play in the head bearings and they are tight. Wondering if this is the sign of a warped rotor?? Thanks.

It sounds like it. That is what mine was doing. Today the dealer is replacing both front rotors on my Speedy under warranty.

Yup ... take it from someone who knows ...

If it's still under warranty, the dealer will do it for you ...

.. then do 'em again ...

.. and again ...

.. and again ..............

better still, after Triumph had mine back at the factory, they stuck a new wheel on .....

If it's only on the first serious stop of the day, and it stays smooth after that, it could be nothing more than oxidation caused by moisture collecting between the pads and the disk. If it's every stop, it could well be a warped disk.

It could also just be brake dust and crud built up on the caliper.

Thanks All. I suspected as much. I did try to clean the rotors and with brake cleaner and unfortunately this happens all the time, not just the first brake of the day.

That is what mine started doing around 8300 miles. Dealer replaced the rotor, it was warped. What was interesting, my front pads have literally NO wear, and I use them all the time, I am just judicious in application as not to heat the rotor up (and cause warping) go figure? My back pads were near gone though and they were not warped at all!

I have had front disk brakes on all of my rides for the past 25 years and none have warped rotors. I really don't get it.
