OK, I've got my belt drive on order from newbonneville, and I'm wondering what kind of reliability\longevity to expect, or should I order a spare belt? They say that the ratio is a little smaller (I believe), so that should make my bike go a smiggen faster? I'm hoping this brings my speedo more in line as it's reads 5-6 mph over at 75, or maybe not if the speedo works off of the front wheel. I'll have to check when I get away from this feakin desk.

Won't effect the speedo. Lower gearing will lower your top speed and increase your off the line grunt. It will also raise your RPM at any given speed.

I heard somewhere the belt drive was the same ratio as a 16t/42t. That is too high revving for me but I would like the smoothness and cleanliness of a belt...good luck and let us know what you think when its up and running.

The ratio is a little shorter than the stock Speedy. There is a little more oomph in the seat of your pants. It's quieter, until it starts squeaking. Never realized how much chain noise there is until I didn't have one. Make sure you keep it tight or it will self destruct in several thousand miles. I've got over 25k on my second belt but other than the squeaking it's trouble free. The second belt is from Harley - I was in a pinch at the time and couldn't wait for shipping. I don't keep an extra one around because it's not like you can swap it out on the side of the road. You need a jack or lift and a full complement of tools to do the job. In a pinch I'll get another Harley belt but otherwise I should be able to get one from Brent fairly quickly. It has to be a pinch, though, because the Harley belt has the "Harley tax" attached.

How long are they taking now? I was going to change out for a belt late in 2006 but it was taking several months so I just got another chain and sprockets.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

How long are the kits taking? No idea. Brent had them in stock when I got mine years ago. I thought I saw someone on here speculating that Ozzie may or may not be making them anymore.

Ditto on all the above from FJ.
They resurfaced my road a month or so ago with loads of nice quarter sized rocks about 6" deep. (Thanks highway doods  )
Anyway, it appears that I must have picked up one of the rocks, my own fault for being Joe Motocross on the road with the bike You'd think I would have learned from the broken bags episode, but noooooo. So I was riding about 5 miles from home when all of a sudden the bike would start "slapping and slipping" like the clutch was cutting out. It scared me as I thought the tranny had gone south. I checked, everything seemed fine. It turns out that I had a bald part on the belt about 12" long, no teeth. This would cause the belt to grab and go, then the bald spot got to the front sprocket and zoom, it would just slip until the section with teeth caught up again which made the bike grab and lurch.. I had to get Jane to bring the truck to get me and was really ****** at myself.
I also ended up getting the belt at the local HD shop for $190 tax included, (thanks HD guys. )
This belt is made by Gates and they told me it has a lifetime warranty too. I asked if it broke or got a bald spot they would replace it? Of course not, It's guaranteed for life to work. If it fails they will let me buy a new one. What a great deal, sort of like the Sleep Number beds warranty.
Ok, nuff babbling, going out into the garage and make some nice IPA today. It's raining.....
