I have added Pro-Tac to FeS line-up. I really like this product great support and very well made. Again thanks to AmyLee for introducing me to it. I got to ride her bike at the SWFT back from the Grand Canyon for 160 miles and it was great! Comes in three styles. Made to fit YOU, and the America/Speedy for the most comfort. Eddy,
Are you sure this fits the Speedy as well? My understanding was that the Speedy seat was a bit too wide and the backrest only fit the America stock seat. Hope I'm wrong.

the America & Speedy use the same seat..no diffrent in the size of the seat.... Ed

It's my understanding that the stock Speedmaster gunfighter seat was just a little too wide for the Pro-Tac backrest. Greas had the backrest with a Speedmaster seat in Georgia, and had to "notch" out each side of the seat to make it fit. Somebody else also posted recently about the Pro Tac not working w/ the Speedmaster seat without modification.

Will its not that the seat is wider.. the stock speedy seat is just got a wider flare at the bottom because it's a one piece seat and the america is a two piece but it only about a big 3/16 wider and this can be fixed by useing a couple spacer on the mounting bracket and just spred the post a bit ...it would only be about 3/32 each side.. but if im wrong im srue some one will let me know  Ed

That someone would be me. I'll have to play with it a bit more.. was going to send it back next week, but if I can space it out a bit to clear my OEM SpeedMaster seat that would work for me. I'll report my findings this weekend.

I just got off the phone with Pro-Tac,
It will work on the Speedmaster IF: you can look directly down on the seat and see the most forward Fender Bolt on each side. If not, it won't work. Jim, give me call or better yet, shoot me a picture (your really good at that) I also spoke to them about your situation and they will take care of you with refund if it won't work.

When I mounted the Pro-Tac I tried inserting a couple of washers, but it just wasn't enough to clear the seat pan. Really, though, pulling back the cover and notching with a rotary tool is easy. The notch only needs to be a half moon about the shape of a quarter, so it's no big deal. When the back is removed, it leaves a small impression on the seat, but it's hardly noticeable. All in all, I'd not hesitate to get the same setup again. Works great, price is right, quality is good, and a little minor mod work just seems natural  . Gary

Nice to know information for the adventurous. A small price for comfort I think, but that is the call on the individuals part.

i got a pro-tac back-rest right after i got my BA in feb. of last year, posted on this site, and i think it was chy who tried one first. ... this is a seriously good addition to your bike for the money, and i would'nt take double the price of mine for it. i had a little trouble getting the angle of the original set to fit just right,,,stayed in touch by phone with pro-tac,, we got it worked right out. these also are some mighty fine folks,,common as us . good folks,,,great product.

They must have made a few mod's to the original as it took all but five minutes to put mine on. I had to use the washers they sent, but they sent a good drawing along with it.
If you ever have riden with Oldroadie a short spin is 350 miles.
It really comes in handy I find you are not wiggling around in the seat and switching back and forth from the rear pegs to the floorboards.

It was a little strange at first, but I quickly got use to it and if you have a bad back or get the monkey butt this addition really helps.

How do those of you who have this like it with a rider. I have XL saddlebags (go ahead, make jokes) and its already a little work to get the wife on (and, continue with said jokes). Does the solid backrest give a better point of leverage for the rider to mount/dismount? How about leg room, any change? Thanks all.

Is the height adjustable? From the pictures I've seen, it appears to set a little too high to help my aching lumbar.

The adjustments are fixed in terms of not multiple adjustments. It can be set specifically to your comfort level by having it custom cut.
As for passenger, it can be easily removed and popped back on if not able to swing over it.

One of our riding buddies has one. When she tied her camping stuff to it, it would rise up. There is nothing holding the backrest in, it simply pulls right out. Would have to not pull straight up for mounting/dismounting, I imagine. Could probably be drilled and cotter pinned, or maybe set-screwed.
