Is there anyway to put an aftermarket engine on a 2007 speedmaster? I'm looking for more power that the 904cc upgrade kit provides. Let me know of any ideas!

Have you tried the 904 kit? Pretty impressive seat of the pants gains!

IMHO huge gains over stock! By far the best bang for the buck. Besides, an aftermarket engine conversion could easily cost more than a new bike...

Also, the handling will likely not be anything like it was. All having been said, if you are determined, I think one of the Triumph triples would come closest to a decent fit. You'd have to fabricate new lower frame rails (good thing they bolt on) and adapt the upper engine mounts. A triple might be wide enough that you could do away with the engine offset too. Note that the chain is on the other side, so you will have to deal with that.

With enough time and money, anything is possible. But is the view worth the climb?

Agreed! Or stated differently, "is the juice worth the squeeze..."
Last time I was on the SM I thought, "this thing is about 300cc's shy of perfection". We shall see.

Anybody remember the Hogslayer? T.C. Christenson built a double-engined Norton drag racer in the '70s. If you really want to, you can have the first double-engined Speedmaster. Just add money.

Racer Brown used to say that the limiting factors in an engine swap are money in the bank and gas in the torch.

I have done the 865-904 swap, and it made a very noticible gain!

Confirmation that compression is a big factor.

Exactly why I don't think there would be that much of a gain from the 790 to the 865 stock parts.

I have an 865 speedie and will probably only consider an upgrade when the engine is getting tired. It would be interesting though to see some dyno figures between one and the other just to make sure the time and money was worth it

Me too for some reason. Although I have +10 HP and even more torque with the BB kit in my '02 360 Bonneville, the 790 had a different feeling.

I know two guys going to the Bonneville Salt Flats this year. They are building a dual engine airstream. They are running two Susuki Hyabusa engines. They talked with Dennis Manne about there plan to try and break his record and he said go for it.You may have seen these guys on Speed they had a stand up scooter they ran.The picture of the Hogslayer made me think of this.I talked to one of the guys on Memorial Day weekend.

You can get 1200cc big bore kits pretty much off-the-shelf and if that's not enough, nitrous and/or turbo. Both have been used successfully. See: http://forums.delphiforums.com/acecafe/startThat's where the big boys live.

Although I have no interest in doing any form of upgrade to the Speedy as for my current needs I am quite satisfied, as is. Plus I already have a hot-rod in my stable. Also given the distances I do I am fearful of tampering with what is already an ok package. I would, however, also be curious to see the dyno figures.

+1. Just me showing up again to say how satisfied I am with my stock 790 with Epcos and appropriate jets. I can get myself into plenty of trouble with LE just the way it is.

1200 dyno run...
Can't link to an image but the figures are:
Power: 78hp @ 5300 Torque: 85ft/lbs @ 4400
Not big numbers but the torque curve is fantastic.
By the riders own admission, the bike isn't set up properly. Needs to breathe better to take advantage of the motor: new pipes and valves required and the cam positions played with.

Bonneville Performance sells a variety of big bore kits, but it does get pricey above the standard 904cc kit. You're looking at around $4,000-5,000 after all is said and done for the 1100cc kit. The sample invoice totals up to $3,562 at the link above, but you'll want bigger carbs, plus there's gaskets and other misc. parts.

I fitted the 904cc big bore kit - replaced the air box with pod filters - fitted the 40mm Keihins and now get 70hp & 68Ft/Lbs of torque. Pulls like a schoolboy. The whole journey including mech work was about Au $6000. The 1200 kit requires stroking the crank which requires welding & grinding. the special mob that do it wont garantee that the crank wont crack 'A' during welding, or 'B' during use

I have to admit, an America with a 1050 in it would be a hoot. Never could figure out why Triumph didnt go that way instead of the 1600 they are working on.

Here is another link for the 904 and 988. http://www.triumphperformanceusa.com/?main_page=index&cPath=10 Higher compression ration for the cylinders. Cylinders come bored out for you and Nikasil plated. If you go with the stroker kit, the crank is supplied complete with Carillo rods for a reasonable price. If I ever go this route, I would consider this site. Looks impressive.

You can buy a similar 904 kit with nikasil plated (not sleeved) barrels from D&D Cycles of Pensacola, FL for only $895. (they swap with your barrels). They did my whole installation with multiple dyno runs and tests for a total of $1250.00 included dyno runs, parts, and all labor. I've been very happy with mine. They offer higher compression pistons for the same price (I stayed with the standard Wisco). My goal was maximum torque throughout the 3-6K range. I'm getting 75 Hp and 66 Ft. Lbs. of torque. The best part is that at 5250 rpm (where your torque and Hp cross) they are both at 60. Major difference from stock and worth every penny. D&D Performance
