After some serious consideration I may have to limit my pleasure riding because of the cost of gas here in CT. Local price $4.24. I know all my friends in Europe are laughing that I will limit my riding when gas across the pond is $8.00 + a gallon. Your thoughts.

heck no...I have almost 10,000 miles in this year so far and ain't slowing down anytime soon.

I find it quite pleasureable to fill up for under $15.00
And at 50MPG I plan to continue riding my TBA as much as possible...

As yet the gas prices have not made me cut back on my bike riding. It has made me or at least influenced me to down size and cut back on cage driving.I now walk to the post office and corner cormer store for samll stuff. BTW the Yaris we just bought is getting 42 mpg. That is mostly Ct country road driving. Secondary roads speeds 45-60 mph. And now the car is getting almost as much attention as the BA when parked.

I know that at lunch I'm stopping by the house and swapping the truck for the bike for my afternoon apointments. But I think your right, I'm not about to just go burn gas for a day like I used too. I wish I was getting 50 mpgs on the speedy last time I checked it was 37 mpg, and about 105 miles per tank. But I love that 16 tooth accleration.

Its giving me more riding at the moment. to try and save some £££ I have started to ride tba to my market stall, instead of taking my large van which through changes in my business i leave in the carpark 3 out of 4 days.So my 65 mile round trip has become a nice way to start and finish the day.

Only thing is I'm a fairweather biker so with the english weather as it is

Well dude, the way I figure it, fillin' up my bike's gastank is STILL a heck of a lot CHEAPER than payin' some shrink to tell me why I'm so depressed lately....RIGHT?!

I just say to myself to suck it up and deal with it. Not riding aint gonna make it any better. Theres no point in looking at the gas station signs, you pay what they want. Ignorance is bliss

Ask for a raise, siphon gas from cars in parking lots, stop having kids, whatever you gotta do...haha

i'm getting a consistent 40 mpg and and i couldn't wait for the weather to break. $15 a week for gas sure beats $60!

My riding style is changing but it has nothing to do with gas prices or the fact that my bike's mpg isn't much better than my VW's.

I haven't been out since before the holiday ripoff, but last time I looked middle grade was still under $4.00. But, diesel is a different story. Filling the truck will have to wait until I win the lottery or the world returns to sanity.
I only drive to town when I really need something. I don't see any burning need most of the time to ride in the rain or high winds, so I spend a lot of time in my shop or barn.

I received an email last night from a friend ~~ a fellow rider who rides a BMW ~~ looking at the cost of riding a bike versus driving a car. I looked at the numbers ~~ but in the end there was a part of the equation that he left out ~~ the fun factor. I love to ride the bike. I didn't go for a ride on Monday like I had hoped ~~ so I just work a few more pastoral calls into the week and enjoy the commute.

So why all the interest in FJ's behind?

when i was a teen and working, i usually earned around 50cent and hr, my dad made $4-5 an hr and gas was 25cent a gal. today minimum wage is $6something guys in the trades earn $20-30 an hr and gas is $3-4 a gal. nothing really changes but the numbers. another piece of that equation is that nobody walks to the store anymore and very few homes have just one car. we have tv's in every room and have a cable bill to pay, 3 computers, $70 sneakers and 6 bicycles all with flat tires and cant remember the last time the kid rode the bike to the store for milk and bread. lifesyle has changed!!!!! and the fact that most things increase in price a little at a time, whereas fuel seems to stay the same for a long period of time and then BANG we wake up and its jumped a buck, everybody freaks out. but everytime the min. wage go's up, the price of fuel go's up. i dont like it anymore than anybody else but look at the inflation numbers and you see it aint that far off track. Mr. Edison and Mr. Ford built a car in the early 1900's and then ran that car on the oil they got from hemp, there was a man who in the 70's an electric car that recharged itself with a generater affixed to the wheels, but the powers that be dont want that or anything like that, "they" want us right where we are!!!! be afraid boys and girls, be aware, be informed!!!!!!! we should have had this all worked out by now!!!! we were told in the 70's this day would come, but we stood by and did nothing, no new refineries, no new drilling, no new forms of energy to supply our cities, very few homes with solar anything. we just sit and expect it to all work out. nothing changes but the numbers!!!!! i am still just as broke as my dad was!!!! my bike gets 50mpg, i will do all my joyrideing on her and leave the hauling to the cage. my work truck gets 12mpg and cost 80bucks to fill every week, i have to raise the price of my service, and i still will only make what i was makeing, nothing really changes but the numbers

You make some very good points and the most important one is we were warned. If you think this is bad just wait a few years until the availability of WATER is a problem. It will make the water wars of the 30's in California look like a picnic-and the shortages will happen in the not too distant future.

Petrol here £1.13, Diesel is £1.25 a litre, just filled the Honda up tonight not on empty and it cost me £11.70. Had 115 miles on the clock..

There is a scheduled 2p per litre rise planned for next month I believe.

I also read that since the budget (was it March?), the government have taken over £1 billion in fuel duty alone!

What a better time to ride the motorsickle than now? in Nov of 1998 it took 15 bucks to fill the tank of my Nissan Frontier. Now it cost that to fill my each of my motorsickles. Not political but true. I love America and apple pie and corn. hum, gotta watch it. No not the next morning surprise, the sticker on the pumps...

I obtained a Shell credit card with 5% rebate, I looked at my statement to see how much I have been spending for gas for TBA. Last month $150. But one good thing I've been a friend of Bill's for 19 years now, so I figure I used to blow (poor choice of words)$150 on a party Day or weekend at least. So $150 a month for Gas for TBA not bad but it is kind of sickening to pay $14 to fill TBA. It is the best and cheapest fun therapy I know. Too bad I will have hip replacement surgery July 7th. Will put me out of action until late August or early Sept. RIDE SAFE

'Want' had nothing to do with it. I didn't ride in the back of the group until the last leg back to Dwight's. The rest of the day some poor soul had to look at it.

$1.34 per litre here and by my reconing its gonna cost me at least $50 in 2 wheel therapy ,just to get this thread out of my head . oh yea and its also spoiled the saying" Gas Grass(not so much this 1 )or Azz,no 1 rides for free " for me .

The TBA costs nearly nothing to operate compared to flying the plane or an afternoon boating. The extra $4 I spend on an afternoon riding this summer vs. last summer aren't going to kill me...I just drink one less beer at the watering hole and everything evens out!

I'll have to side with ya Jonathan. I don't do as much pleasure riding as in South Carolina, BUT I am trying to make up for it by using it as much as possible for trips to the store, riding to work, and "necessary" trips where taking the car eats through my gas. NOW, having said that, I always try to at least take the long way to the store, just not as long as it used to be. Just hope the weather holds so I can make the most of it.

Couldn't believe it cost $15 to fill up today. I'll probably do it again tomorrow. Luckily for the pocketbook, rain is forecasted for Sunday.

The price of oil doesnt make sense, even OPEC says that. Un regulated oil speculation is driving it up, and speculators have little on the line to play this game. Add in an unwillingness to produce your own, well, we have get what we deserve. I would only hope that we enjoy the riding and forget the prices, its a lot cheaper than a night at the movies, and MUCH more satisfying ( and as the operator, we control where we go ).
