I am trying to get all of the parts together in order to get Andrew's turn signal fixed. I just got the turn signal in the mail from Triumph today. As many of you stated in another post, the stems have been shortened. I have measured them and they are 1" long, and 3/4" diameter, and are not chromed. I have looked around at some of the sites and found chrome spacers, but haven't found the nonchromed ones (it looks just like the stock spacer.) If you all don't mind could you look at these pictures for me and help me figure out what all I need to order (other than the complete turn signal) so I have everything when we take it in to the shop. Or is this something where the current spacer and bolt that come with the original turn signal be shortened at the shop? I have found one guy who has worked on Triumph in Auburn, no one in town here works on them, and I am trying to avoid hauling the bike all the way to an ATL dealer. I emailed him pictures, but he confessed that he isn't great with the computer. So, here are the pics I sent him. Any guidance on what I should buy, and from where in order to match the other side as best as possible. The broken turn signal: Thanks! Dinah

Now that I saw pix those are home made stems for sure, can still see the marks from the lathe. You can get stainless spacers at a hardware store and they make hollow bolts you can order from places like J&P Cycles like these and then slip the spacers over the hollow bolt to get the same look. You will need to measure what length spacer and bolts you need and shop around for the right stuff. You could always do both sides so they look the same and adjust the stem length according to what parts you find.

Would these work http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetail.aspx?PID=3200008I would have to trade out the stainless one on the intact turn signal, but that wouldn't be a big issue, right?

Yes but you can get the same at a hardware store, J&P are great for customer service, you can call and speak to a tech and if you have any issues with the parts you can return no questions asked, that is as long as you spoke with a tech before you purchase and they tell you it will work. They are good about returns anyway but ,as to be expected, there has to be a good reason. The thread might be different, and be sure you have enough length to go through the fender, fender strut, spacer, and into the signal.

I think you would be better served to search eBay for a set of factory signals , they pop up on there often , or just get a price for new ones . Less aggravation factor .

If you decide to go with the chrome spacers that you posted a link to with J&P, I can do you better than that and will not charge $7.99 Shipping
I have that very part $4.60 including shipping to you.

Go with Eddy, or the hardware store.
Wade, stock signals would look stupid where they are mounted on that bike, They have good signal heads just looking to mount them so they aren't hanging way out in the breeze like a pair of wings or something, they have them in the end of the fender strut. Their tail light has been turned upside down so mounting them in the old location is not really an option.

Ok guys, here is the actual "spacer." I was thinking it was a spacer like the ones pictured in the above links. Alas it isn't. It is like a spacer with hollow bolts on either side, but it is all one piece. Where in the heck can I get something like this?!?!?!? The hollow bolts on J&P are only 1 1/2", which isn't long enough. I am going to contact the guy who sold us the bike to see if he can at least tell me where his BIL had the custom work done. If I could find this part then I think this will be a pretty easy fix, but if not then I have to at least find a hollow bolt that is 3" long since the "spacer" is 1" and the one side of the hollow bolt is 1 1/2". Also, you can see on the broken turn signal, that there is no "neck." Of course the new one came with a neck, but am I right in thinking that we will be able to screw the neck off? It doesn't look like one whole piece. Eddy - If I figure out that we need to go with spacers I will get them from you. I can't wait to get the mirrors in the mail!!

The original owner put some serious time and thought into your bike and had more than a few bits made to suit.
Until you can get the right stuff from Eddy why not get some threaded lamp rod from Ace Hardware and slip a couple of off-the-shelf spacers over that? Then you could pass inspection and go riding until the proper gear arrives

That's what I said in my first post, I could see right away it was a part turned on a lathe. I suggested the spacers and hollow bolts since I figured you didn't have a lathe to turn a new one. I'm sure you could take that to the local machine shop and have one made. You could send it to someone like me too and have it made, myself it could be a couple weeks though I have quite a bit going on at the moment.

On the old signal, take the lens off and remove the lamp reflector and socket/wires. Take the inside nut off the broken shaft. Then take a regular flat head screwdriver and gently jam it tightly into the broken stem outside and unscrew it. Now that you've taught yourself how it's built you can undo the new signal and prepare it for installation.

Thanks you guys. I have contacted a local machine shop, and hopefully they will be able to help. I have also taken apart the old turn signal, and if the remainder of the bolt can be removed from the old turn signal it could be saved. If not we have the new one we can use.
Thanks again for all of the help. Hopefully we will have the bike up and running in a week or so.

I took the custom piece to a local machine shop, and explained what needed to be done. Got a phone call today that they needed to weld the turn signal on to it, since that was the only way to fix it. Well I picked up the part. It works, but isn't pretty I think we will go ahead and use it as a temporary fix, and then try and find someone who can build a duplicate part for me. I am glad I was able to use the original turn signal instead of the brand new one I got in the mail. This way I will still have that one for a proper fix.

I'm glad you got a temporary fix but you need to find another "machine" shop. My local shop would have lathed out a replacement for me and this is a much, much smaller town than Columbus, GA.

I agree. So far the bike shops we have been to "only work on Harleys." I ask the if they know of any in the area that work on other bikes, and all I get is a strong "no." I am hoping that the guy I found to work on the bike in Auburn will be able to point us to a more appropriate machine shop. We need a repair shop or a machine shop that is used to making parts for bikes, since the place I went obviously wasn't.

I totally missed this post, darn blackberry! I had looked at the big box hardware stores and couldn't find any hollow bolts. I just called the local Ace Hardware and they told me they had lamp rods!! I also googled lamp rods, and found a lamp store that sells all of the different lengths. So maybe if we can't get this part made we can get a lamp rod and then the spacer for a cleaner look. Hopefully though we will be able to get this part duplicated since the current fix looks like garbage IMO, but hey, it works.

If you went the lamp rod route there are plenty of turned lamp parts to use as spacers that would look very cool.
