I have a no spark condition on the right side cylinder. Swapped over wires on coil from side to side but still a no spark on the right. From the service manuel I have narrowed my search down to the igniter box. Still need to pull the tank and check the wiring to r/s coil. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and their fix.

We had one bike in the shop with a no spark on one cylinder condition that turned out to be the CDI. Reverse the electrical leads on the coils.. (it's not going to start of course) If the problem moves to the other side, it is indeed the CDI.

Since the problem did not follow the wires, I'd bet on the coil or plug wire being the cause.

When I swapped sides with the wire I also swapped plug wires over so the bike ran but still on only with the l/s firing. So that eliminated coil and wires. Even went as far as changing the plugs from side to side. They were replaced last fall I wanted to take them out of the equation. It was suggested maybe the pick-up coil. I thought the pickup sent one signal for both side or am I wrong on that. When the pick-up coil shot craps on the Trident it took out all signal for all the coils. Well I'm off to the shop to play with it some more. At least it's raining this first day of the long weekend.

I had the same symptoms and did the same test and got the same results. I also checked all the wires for breaks, nicks, looseness etc. I then borrowed Midlifespeed’s igniter and it fired right up. I used Arlan’s igniter to ride to the Triumph shop then put mine back on and returned Arlan’s. The shop started by adjusting the pickup coil then called me and said it was running. It was about 4 days til I could go pick it up and, guess what, it only ran on one cylinder. The shop then contacted Triumph and they sent a new igniter, from the UK. It took like 2 weeks but that fixed it. Now my bike is an 04 and 2 yrs out of warranty but Triumph fixed it with no cost to me at all. Now that’s doin me right and I applaud them for that.
I would suggest ya go the same route I did and see if ya get the same result.
The only downside was, I was going to the Georgia Rally and the igniter didn’t arrive til the Thur during the rally so I didn’t get to go. That sucked big time!!!

ive seen a couple other things cause a dead acting cylinder when spark was present,
you should have ES or extended reach spark plugs, if you by chance put a non ES spark plug in it that cylinder may fire weakly or not at all. the other would be something affecting the compression so checking that could rule out a few things. just remember to hold the throttle WFO ...just some thoughts should electrical suddenly be ruled out.

Well when I finally got out to the shop to start my next series of tests. I tryed the bike first and wouldn't you know, running fine with both cylinders firing as they should. I went ahead and pulled the tank checked the wiring. Nothing appears chafed or worn. I did pull the cover and check the air gap and it was right on the 1mm as in the manual. Called around and there are no igniters in MO as well as KS, IA, or OK. Looks like a big special order for me next week. I never have liked the igniter box on this bike anyways, whenever it hit the rev limiter it shut the bike completely off for approximately 2 seconds then come back on instead of just a rapid intermittent interuption. Wish Triumph would pick up the tab for mine but it looks like I'll be out the $566 plus tax.

The manual has been updated, that gap should be 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm is too much.

Check your numbers, there are two ignitors for our bikes, one for the 790 one for the 865...this used one is $289
