Hi Guys,

Been advised i need my cush drive replacing due to excessive wear. Can someone quickly explain what it is and its purpose? it sounds pretty major, especially for a bike with less than 4k on the clock!

Many thanks

Rear chain ring is attached to a carrier hub. The carrier hub mates to the rear wheel. The Cush rubbers cushion the power transfer from the chain ring to the rear wheel. the part is like 65 bucks. Machines in Motion can get one for you.

Age may have contributed to its demise, according to your sig its 5 years old. Also, who said it was bad? How did they check it? It will have some play even when new, and need replacing when play is excessive. Many around here have replaced theirs with a Thunderbird Sport cush drive. Supposed to be stouter.

Mine was replaced at 2 yrs. and 9K with the Thunderbird model (under warranty). My dealer said he thought they have changed in later models of the America and Speedmaster to that one. Fits tighter and lasts much longer. It seems they get slop, they deteriorate fast.

+ 1.

Not only does it feel less clunky when changing down into 1st from neutral, I also found putting it into neutral worked much easier for some reason.

So yeah like it has been mentioned, they are a really tight fit (that's what we want don't we ) but at the same time a really good improvement over stock.

When mine was loose a couple of years ago, I cut strips from a tire tube and glued them to the sides of each cush. Took up the slack and has held up nicely.

from an earlier post.
I put 5 small rubber pieces behind the 5 sections of the original cush drive a few thousands of miles ago. Still just like a new bike. Cost was $4.

from my earlier post:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I fixed mine a few weeks ago. Used 5 strips from a rubber molding that goes on a wall, just above the flooring. Less tha 1/8 inch play, at most. Feels like a new bike, with no slop. Makes every gear shift perfect.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got about 5,000 miles on them now. Still as good as the day I done it.
