Hi there font of all Trumper knowledge! I am on here because I have to trade in My '07 Tigger for something my hips don't groan about - and as the Phantom Black '08 Speedmeister is the most handsome beast in the Trumpet stable, that's what I shall be riding this weekend. My biggest concern is coming to terms with the dip in power from the Tiger to the Speedmaster. My question is this - what's the best instant fix (the big bore kit I suspect) and any tips on running the engine in would be appreciated. The Tiger was a real pain to run in, so I did it all in a week. I also ran-in a R1200GS lasr year which responded well to violent changes in revs however it just wasn't for me. Bear in mind (sore point to you cross-the-ponders I fear!) that this is an 865 with EFI not carbs, so the tuning mods are limited I suspect.
Many thanks guys

Welcome Bandeedo, from what I have read on here I reckon the big bore is the best way to go for a power increase, along with carbs etc. The EFI models havn't been played around with much yet so you will get to pioneer some of the mods!

Welcome!!!
Breaking in isn't much of a big deal on theses bikes. You jusnt dont want to run at constant RPM for long periods. You want to vary your RPMs as much as possible and the break-in period is only 500 miles.
I am not so sure the power difference between the Tiger and Speedmaster is much of an issue, you have to remember that it is a completely different kind of bike, plus numbers are decieving. You wont have much problem keeping up with anyone.

Welcome matey I went from a bandit to a BA... noticed a little difference in razz, but other things made up for what I lost by a mile... extra comfort, looks, GRUNT! and I love the sound of throttling back at 40 whilst in top gear and not stopping til I hit a ton... you got yourself a unique bike that'll have every tom, dick & harry stopping to chat about it.

Welcome to the clubhouse! Please keep us updated on the EFI version of the engine.
I don't know if the BB kit is worth the investment on the 865cc engines. Definitely on the older bikes, but you are only going to go from 865 to 904cc.

I wouldn't worry to much about the power. They are plenty powerful. But if it is a real issue to you then may i suggest a Red America
Welcome to the club
Don't believe him the Black and silver ones are faster.

Welcome Rob, you will notice a power difference, but remember these are cruisers and not pocket rockets, even though you can sling them into the bends at speed. I'm sure you will be happy with your choice

I think what Conwy said covers my thinking too. Unless I missed something, you'll find that none of us on here with the 865cc engine found it necessary to install the BB kit. The EFI also adds a slight kick too over the carbed models.
You got the colour right too!
