I found somewhere (can't remember if it was this forum or another Triumph forum) that the Kuryakyn #8309 Gas Cap would fit a TBA. Any truth to this? This is the link to Kuryakyn's Product Page

Hey Pete,
I assume you installed just the cap and not the flange?
How is the fit and finish?

Pete: Any chance you have a photo of the cap on the America? I'm also interested in whether or not you used the trim ring. The site says the cap is "keyed". Is the cap plastic or metal? Despite my best efforts, my OEM cap is getting scratched and it's just a matter of time before it needs replaced.

Hey Phil.. if you look closely at the reflections in the pics you can see threads on the backs of the flanges. I'm guessing the flange screws into the tank (and probably locks in somehow), then the cap into the flange. The "key" is the rectangular looking thing in the front (part 8311) that fits into the slots in the sides of the cap to open it.
I assume it'd screw over the top of the console...would love to see a pic of it on an tba/sm. If it didn't hang over the edges I think it'd look ok.

That would be awesome if the flange screwed in first. It would protect your tank paint and look great. We need pics!!!

You have to install the flange, it is the same threads as the stock cap. It comes with 2 different rubber seals, depending on witch harley model you ride. I used the flat one I think? You screw the flange on to your tank very ,very tight. the center cap just unscrews with the key( plastic ). I mostly just screwed the cap on finger tight and could loosen it with the palm of my hand. Kept the key on my keychain just in case. makes for a nice flush look.
I will look for a photo.

Bought it, fitted it in the carpark in under five minutes. Looks great, and the easiest mod I've done so far.

Just ordered one myself. If it stops my paint around the bung from chipping, it's worth it. How does it work when filling the tank? Does it help holding back the evaporative boot on the gas nozzle?

and the up side of this is , it is a vented cap. if you ever pinch or block your vent tube you will not have vapor lock or fuel flow problems.

I just bought one. There are now 3 left. I bought it cause it should eleminate my paint chipping problem. If not I think everyone should have a spare gas cap.

Yep, it should help out there.

That's the only minor issue I've found with it - if you take off your standard cap and look inside you'll see the hole to fill through's actually offset to the bike's left to make room for the breather. When you make the cap smaller but leave it central that offset lower hole doesn't quite match up. I've found I've had to fill the bike from the right hand side, instead of the way I'm used to doing it - from the left.
Evaporative boot? Huh? I don't think aust pumps have them.

Man, I hate those vapor trapping foreskin things on the nozzles! You can get a small U shaped plate that fits into the groove around the nozzle to hold the d__m things back, but those are a pain to install also. Around here there are several stations that don't have the boots and they get all my business!

Guys: Thanks for the photo & Ebay link. Going to try it. I had one from Brent, but the fit was terrible, so I sold it. In fact, looks like Brent also bought a Kuryakyn on Ebay - what does that tell you? Palmer

What's really funny is when I click on the "Purchases" link, I see an awful lot of very familiar names on the list of recent buyers.

They always have them. They list a new auction shortly after one ends. I think the get a low price from kuryakyn because the buy in bulk. I can't buy from them or I would have to pay sales tax, and who wants to do that. I got my second one from another auction.

Hi Shari,
Way up in Pete's second post here, he said he used the flat one.
That's the one I am going to start with. I figure I will remove the console so I can see how well that gasket fits and if I don't like it, either use the other or make one...

Yeah, what Phil said.
I do not remember which I used and do not have the extra in the package( I put original parts in the aftermarket packages and keep everything).
Just use the one that fits best. It is not that big of a deal unless you greatly over fill your tank or turn it upside down.
