It may be a good idea to name 'carrier', location and intended route. I think it would make topic/thread more interesting.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree, I think it would be a good idea to make this a sticky somewhere and add pix to it and names and places as it goes along. Would be cool to have one going around over seas too.

should it be in "rides and events"?

Yes, I would like to see this as a permanent thread. Could one of you monderators tell me how to do this. As for the pictures above they were taken in Coldwater, MI. The handoff was from BigJack in western Indiana to Bikerbob in eastern Michigan. When he is ready to move the journal forward he will be posting.

Any way a sticky map could be put up to show the progress?

The map is a good idea too not sure how that could be done though unless it's done on someones computer and then uploaded to their photo post of choice and altered as needed.

Not to make this complicated, but is the main idea to cover miles and states or site members? What do you want in the journal..? Pix and a brief commentary?
As far as maps, I believe there is a site (been mentioned on here before) called Frapper or something. Whatever the name is, someone will correct me here, each PER (Pony Express Rider) could sign in there with a date of reception and handoff....
Just an idea...

How about adding a SPOT to the sport? Well, it's food for thought for a future "baton" pass...$300 is probably out of the budget for this first package...but it sure is a cool tool.

Deon, the journal has many pockets on the inside covers and lots of empty pages to fill.I did not want to put to many demands on the riders so they may feel free to add as much or as little as the mood strikes them. The only constance should be who hands it off,who recieves it and where this took place.

should keep the text simple so there is room since it seems it will be going through quite a few hands. Members living near each other may want to ride for the hand off together. I don't see why it would have to be a single person and leave another local member out who may want to be involved.

There should also be a photo of every hand-off, it would make for a fantastic "family" album.

Jack, I guess I missed this part but who are the carriers and how are they chosen? I assume you know who and where. I would hate top see this get lost in the shuffle kinda like the hole saw did that was floating around a year or two back. Mike

Mike, this is going to be a free flowing trip whoevere takes the journal takes the responceabity of moveing it onward. They will have to post that it's ready to move and ask who wants it next.It may varey well bounce around a given area for awhile and thats ok.I'm on the site every day if I see no movement in a reasonable amount of time I'll ask about it.

if stern12 can make the mid-atlantic raid on 6/20 he can hand it off to the north, south or east, depending on who shows for the raid. or hand it to me and i'll run her a few hundred miles or so!

Birchr, just the names of the people carrying the journal and any little presonal notes they care to make.I would like to see Europe and the Aussys both try this, then in a year or so maybe we could exchange journals to show at our biggest rallys.

Jeff, if at any time during the journals travels it lands at a rally site with more than one Bonneville America rider pressent I would hope it gets passed around for all to add their comments.

I met Stern in Sandusky and handed off the journal and as soon as I can I will post a picture. Storms in my area prevented me from riding the bike but I plan on making up for that this coming weekend.
