I went out for a ride yesterday, came home, switched off outside garage, got off, opened garage door, got back on bike, turned it on, and........... nothing!!!!!!
No lights, no ignition, nothing electrical working at all.
Have checked all fuses they all seem ok.

Has anyone got any other ideas, I can do basics but am no machanic, so please be a decriptive as posible. Will spend tomorrow morning striping it down to try and find fault, but would appreciate any help with what to look for!!!
Thank you all.

Did you hit the kill switch when you got off the bike?

First, check the ground lug on the battery and make certain it's tight. Then, check the battery for charge.

Start by checking fuse #11, (the big one) that one kills everything. Then go to the battery ground cable and make sure it is tight and clean at both ends. Make sure the battery didn't go bad whilst you were riding, that does happen sometimes.

At least you can take bits off of Jane's to confirm where the fault is!!

I almost forgot, and I did this once. Make sure you didn't accidentally leave the keyswitch on and then turned it one more notch to the park position.

Would still have the light on. Well actually would put the other light on. The one I've never seen lit.

It's baffling me...you went out for a ride, and you were back. Was it a long ride?? If it was, you can discount the flat battery theory, unless some part of the charging circuit is shot.
You checked all the fuses - even the biggie one? i've had the indicator/brake light fuse blow - for what seems like no reason, changed it and it hasn't blown since.

I can't even look in my Haynes...it's at my olds where we used it to sort the problem out with the 03 (subject to the test run next time I'm up there)...

Gina,

Had been out since noon, went to a meeting in Birmingham, popped to see Olds, then went to meet some friends at a pub, so was about 90 miles all told.
Engine was off for about 45 seconds, while I unlocked garage. When I turned it back on, wasn't even getting the starter motor clicking. Just complete electrical shutdown!!! Will check battery contections tomorrow morning, didn't have time today other than to take out all the fuses and check them. Even swopped 30amp for spare.

Check your key switch also. Is it still plugged in. Since the last thing you touched was the key, could the harness be unplugged from the key switch operator?

Success!!!!

Thank you to everyone that posted.
Greg, it was the connector box coming off the back of the ignition, that was loose. Would not have looked at it so closely if you had not have mentioned it.

To the moderators, sorry I posted in the Lounge, but it was the only way I could think of to get people to see it quickly. So with good grace I will except a slapped wrist.

Once again thank you all

Great to hear that things went ok and the repairs were cheap. Glad we could help.
