MY brand new TBA's front master cylinder is leaking at the gasket line right beneath the lid. I just got the bike and it has less than 200 miles on it , I talked to the dealer and they are going to try to get Triumph to replace the whole thing under warranty, anybody else had this problem? Also just so you know I did carefully remove the top to inspect for any obvious problems, cleaned everything and reassembled....still leaks.

Sounds like some tech didn't do a very good job of assembling your bike and maybe knocked something out of wack. I am glad your dealer is going to take care of it for you.

The rubber diaphragm's edges must be absolutely dry on both sides as must the mating surfaces for the seal to work properly. It's quite likely the assembler buggered the rubber and that'll need replacing. Keep an eye on the drips as the fluid is quite caustic and will lift the powder coat and paint if left unattended.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

My brand new 07 America was doing the same exact thing. I finally figured out the problem. At some point too much brake fluid was in the master cylinder and the wells that the screws go into had fluid down in there. I sucked the fluid out and removed the excess fluid from the master, dried everything up real good and problem was solved...

Does sound like a tech didn't take their time assembling your bike, possible pinched vent tube and now the master cyl. maybe over full or just hasitly put together and leaking.

Yeah I'm scared to death of the brake fluid ruining my paint, that is why my bike is presently sitting in my garage instead of being ridden. I wish I would have seen some of your responses before coating everything with gasket sealer, I fear that I have gummed up the diaphram to the point of it being un-usable.

shouldn't use any sealer on that, if it doesn't seal there is a problem and it wouldn't take much to clog the master cyl.

This is VERY important!! When we were developing our res covers, I was baffled with leaks until we realized that completely dry surfaces were absolutely critical.

Brake fluid tends to dissolve a lot of things. I would get whatever sealer you used out of there before it becomes a sludge that moves downstream and really gives you problems.
There is a sight glass on the reservoir. Just put enough fluid in so it is visible in the sight glass - you don't need to fill it. You will need to keep an eye on it as the brake pads wear, and add a bit if needed, but it doesn't need to be filled to the brim for the brakes to work fine.

As mentioned, keep the diaphragm and the mating surfaces dry and don't gorilla the cover screws. Even and snug...

This is so sad. The dealer needs to take a master off the showroom model and put you back on the road right away. He can then put your leaking one on the showroom model for show only and replace that when the part comes in.

Mel Tillis comes to mind.
"Go on and send me down to Tucson..."

Euro motosports, for being such a huge place ya think they would take of you. Don't be a feared of trying to fix the leaking reservoir. or of trying to un-pinch the fuel tank vent hose. After all, you have every right to work on your own sickle. Better you than a dweeb like the kind that may have uncrated your bike. Any stealership that says you cannot remove your saddle and tank or remove a reservoir cover is truly a stealership.
My concern is that the stealership will have your sickle for a very unreasonable length of time. After all riding season is the time that countless service departments all over the northern hemisphere are charging for things like inner tubes on mag wheeled sickles, etc... I believe that your dealer will take care of you. Mistakes happen. Good dealers make sure they do not repeat mistakes and they let you ride a demo sickle while they fix those items they either messed up or overlooked when un-crating your english iron. Iheartstearlshipscantyoutell? I digress...

To answer your question, some of the tybud sickles have had front brake reservoir problems. I would bet there is a technical service bulletin on it but those are guarded with written agreements.

Good luck, welcome to the machine, and i hope all of your minor issues with your sickle get sorted real quick.

P.S.: Whenever you have a stealership work on your motorsickle, inspect your sickle throughly before leaving the lot with it. Especially after the first service.
