Pony Express Ride Well guys, while all of you have been making your plans to go to Georgia this year I’ve been thinking about something I read on this site a year or two ago. The general idea is to hopscotch a journal around the country. There would be no time frame on this…if it takes this summer and next, no big deal. I’d like to see the journal get in the hands of as many members as possible. I’m starting off here in northern Indian (just east of Chicago) looking for someone to meet me at the Ohio state line. I’m hoping that from Ohio the pouch goes east through “Dog Countryâ€, Pennsylvania . From there via Connecticut up to “Dinquavilleâ€, New York. I am sure it can be passed around that area for a while. Then it needs to head south toward “Chytownâ€, Georgia. From Georgia south to “Newtville†and all the guys and gals in Florida. From there it is a long stretch to Brent and the riders in Texas. From there it needs to go west toward California and then north to Washington state. Then across the northern plains back to Wisconsin and the Chicago area until it comes back to Indiana. I know this can be done. We’ve coordinated the drill out tool for pipes all across the country and we can do the same thing with this journal. When you get the journal feel free to enter any comments or pictures you wish but include your user name, the date you received the journal and the date you sent it on. To get it to the next person just post on the site that you are ready to move it on and make arrangements to meet the next rider. I know out west that we are spread pretty thin so it might take part of a vacation to advance the pouch. Remember there are no time restrains. When it gets back to me I will find a way to share it with everyone so we can all see where it has been and who has had contact with it. This will only work if we all get behind it and take the time to go out and meet a fellow member along its route. This could be fun checking in to see where the journal is during its travels. So who’s in Ohio that is interested in meeting me on a weekend to start the journal on its way. I can meet someone at the first plaza in Ohio on 80-90.Or I can be on US30 as it leaves Fort Wayne going into Ohio, whatever works for one of you Buckeyes.

If it makes it here before August, I can take it across Missouri to Kansas City on my way to Sturgis. Do we have any members in St. Joseph, the home of the real Pony Express?

I'll talk to Wendy but I figure we're in as long as we can get someone to watch the twins. It's about 6 hrs give or take (maybe 7) from here to the Ohio border. She has friends near Pittsburgh she might want to visit unless there is another member would would want to meet you then relay to us. Just a matter of timing I would imagine.

Lets give it some time Dog,I know that there are some guys in the Cleavland area that might chime in.I would hope that here in the eastern part of the country no one should have to make more than a days outing of this.

I said if no other member out that way chimes in. We are planning a trip out that way anyway. There is a haunted prison in W Virginia we want to tour. I'm in no rush at this point and besides any reason to ride is a good one.

Well Ian, if and when you receive it, I'm just east of the Hudson river, hop, skip & jump to Port Jervis/Pocanos. I'd be happy to cruise on over and bring it to the Ct. boarder~~where I'm sure it'll be ping-ponging around for a while,,,,,,,,,

Sign me up for any north Alabama, north Georgia or southeast Tennessee transfers, it sounds like fun...and a good way to meet some more folks.

Interesting idea... When the kids in Georgia get back to their keyboards I'm sure more gaps will get filled in. I'm willing to pass it around Western Pa. Getting it overseas next would be an excellent endeavor. Worldwide, I say!

This is an AWESOME idea!!
I think almost all of us know someone and get together with other people from different areas and states, so getting it around the country shouldnt be too difficult.

Would be nice to hit every state, I imagine to do so it may have to cross some states more than once. Looks like there will be enough volunteers if this keeps up.

A radical suggestion to consider. If someone can get it to me before mid-July, I'll carry it down to Australia and see if I can pass it off to some of our brothers down under to tote around. Then, in late August, I can bring it back and pass it on to someone else. Steve

Maybe we need a couple journals to keep going around the world. Maybe Robert can add a notebook/journal to his BA.com CafePress shop or we can get some of the oval decals and put them onto some decent quality journals or hardbound notebooks. Soren

If you can get it to Seattle by Mid-July, it can go to Nelson, BC, and down into Montana (or back to Seattle and a different direction). I don't know where it can go from here. Maybe Colorado?
