Definitely upper end valve train type noise. Obvious questions first.
1. Have you checked your valve lash? Is it within specs? Shims in the right place?
2. Have you adjusted your cam chain tensioner? Is the spring for the tensioner ok?

without being there hard to pin but sounds to me like maybe just needs to be shimmed again. Maybe you have a valve or 2 you misread. What did Pat have to say he heard it in person?
Who did the valve job? Maybe they wore out a guide.

yea pat listened to it.
i believe his thinking is correct, valve hitting the piston. regaurdless i knew another tear down inspection was probably going to happen but its going to have to wait.many things may be changing this summer and i cant afford to get caught mid-build and have to bail. its not all bad news, not that difficult of a job just need time.

If it is in fact a valve hitting a piston better not run it anymore and hope you haven't bent it. I was thinking easiest first. With any luck maybe just check the cam timing and could be off thus causing the valve to hit. If not then it's a much bigger problem. Have you done over size valves? Not sure how the Wiseco pistons are cut but it isn't possible a piston is in backwards, is it? On the old bikes one valve cut was smaller than the other and had to go in the right way I would imagine the same is true on these.

hey dogg,,
first off being a newer member i wanna say this community has been great helping out. as for the triumph if something like a piston hung backwords turns out to be the culprit im going to be be very embarrassed. the motor hits strong on both cylinders so any possible damage so far should be neglible i think.

when this is all over with i will post a thread so this ordeal isnt a cliffhanger .....

With not enough information (for me) I would suggest you take the right side cover off and ensure you have TDC with this pic:

If you've already been down this road, I apologize. Sure sounds like the valves are really out of adjustment though.

Recheck everything.

Richard, Before you begin any tear down, verify your valve lash is ok. Listening to your engine if a valve did hit the piston you should hear a misfire and or a popping in the intake or exhaust. In my experience whenever a valve made the slightest contact with a piston, it bent. The result was a popping noise in the intake (if it was an intake valve) along with a slight miss depending on how bent the valve was. Your engine sounds smooth even though it is noisy. Pull the valve cover, check the valve lash, cam timing, chain tension.

Since I'm not familiar with the engine internals and valve angles I'm only giving an opinion based on experience with other engines. Look for the easy things first. If that fails, check for a valve hitting the piston.

Oh and I agree with Ian, don't run it any more.

Thats why I figured clearance/timing since it seemed to be running OK otherwise. Hard to say for sure though.I doubt the backward piston, was just a thought as to why it could have made contact with a piston if timing and clearance had already been rechecked.
