 My first oil change. Advice?

I'm about to do my first oil change on the '07 America (this weekend probably).
I don't have a proper garage, so a lift or jack is out of the question, but does anyone have any advice one particular methods or tools that I should use? Any specific filter wrenches work better with our stuff?
Any tips for the bike jack impaired?

I put a piece of 5/4 decking wood under the kick stand and just let it sit and drain until it isn't dripping anymore. Also if you warm the bike it will drain faster but don't burn yourself with the hot oil. I use a standard swivel handle small filter wrench. You can reuse the drain plug gasket abut be sure everything is clean. Be sure to fill the filter and smear a little oil on the filter gasket before you spin it on. Of course use Amsoil full synthetic 20/50 motorcycle oil and an Amsoil filter.

Yup.
2x4 is ok too.
Maybe jump on & pull it upright or a bit to the right after it's mostly drained.
The left side of the cooler can trap a good bit.

I agree after it stops dripping I always hold it upright for a bit to get any leftover that might have been trapped.

I never have and it works just fine. Some guys say to anneal it (heat it then slowly cool it to make it soft) but I haven;t found that to be needed.

thanks for the advice guys...
Now I just have to find the oil for a price I can afford.
Mobile 1 was $14+ a quart at the local Honda shop....

Be at the ready with the oil pan. It will shoot out almost a foot when you first remove the nut. It makes a mess-ask me how I know that?!

Napa Auto Parts is where I get my Amsoil and filter.Was $7 a qt last oil change.

anyone know the size of the drain plug off hand?
There's a hardware store right next to my work so I am going to run out and get a torque wrench, but all my manuals are at home....forgot to check this morning.
