Yup, some learn how to do it right and some get a lot of exercise.

From what I gather there's a definite knack to firing up those old bikes. We used to go to the annual vintage/ steam rally at Masham. One of my father's mates Jimmy had a 50's Velocette Venom, it was his pride and joy. One year the Saturday afternoon challenge (apart from the obligatory seeing how many ales could be supped) was that if any of us could fire Jimmy's bike up first time then they could have the honour of taking it out for a ride. Most the lads were experienced and had owned older bikes but only Jimmy could do it first time with his Velocette. Out of six, four gave up and one managed I think on the fourth attempt. Only one lad Steve managed first time though, think more by luck! Steve only rode round the square though, he'd had a few beers and could see Jimmy was starting to look very worried!
Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of fuel before you think straight

My T140E was always a one kick start, except the day I went to my mothers had a brew and kicked it and kicked it for another 10 the layers came off and then my mother said to me, is this switch supposed to be on. (Think kill switch guys)
