Heeeellllpppp!!!!!! Just finished stripping and polishing my front master cylinder when disaster struck!!! I broke the sight glass. Called my triumph dealer who says it can't be fixed and I have to buy the entire master cylinder for £140!! I can't afford it. Anybody out there, know anybody in the UK who can fix itand quickly? If I can't get it done I'll miss Dent and I don't want that as it's my first ever meet. Please someone out the help. Cheers

Thanks, That'll be my slast resort. After 2 days of polishing the original, I need to find someone who can replace the sight glass if possible.

You will not get the sight glass replaced, it will be a replacement cylinder. Also when you come to bleed the front brake, bleed it so no air comes out and then tie something round the lever to the grip and leave it over night. Then come back to it in the morning..

surely, if the manufacturer, can press the seal and sight glass into the body, there must be someone out there who can replace it?

It's a 2002 TBA. so hacked off, Looks like my 2 days of polishing have left me with a very shiny, expensive paper weight.

you will be talking around £40 - £50 from a breakers yard then, try Cheshiremotorcycle salvage before Triump-ant as he is really expensive

Bike Bandit lists the Bonneville and the America as the same master, a Speedy would be different, of course, because of the extra caliper.

I have 2 possible solutions, 1 is to get some PC7 and make sure the area is totally clean and dry, Patch it with the PC7 and it will hold up for the life of the master cyl. Only draw back would bo havinbg to pull the cover to check your level.
The other would be to get a cheap HD after market unit to get you by for now. Those tend not to last very long though.

If you haven't found one yet, I have one from my "05 America sitting in my garage. It's missing a cover bolt 'cause I stripped the head on it but it shouldn't be too hard to replace. I'm willing to donate it if you pay the shipping. It should take a week and cost about $100.00 CAD (around 50 pounds) to get it there. At least that's what the caliper cost to ship over. PM me and let me know if I can help? NR

Get a piece of glass or suitable plastic cut to the correct size and epoxy it in. There's no pressure on the reservoir side so it'll be fine.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. In blind panic, I bought a Bonnie set from ebay for £50. If only I'd waited til I'd yeard from all of you, I could have saved meself a bit of money. Instead, I was out getting very wasted on St. George and the Dragon Ale. Still, yet another lesson learned. Thanks to one and all Simon

Hope the standard Bonnie on fits, but I think they have a smaller 7/8 bars and ours are 1". might not matter. I would go with the temporary repair suggested and araldite in a 5P pr a 1p. a 25c would be cool.

Problem sorted. The old sight glass pushes straight out with a small tap from a large hammer. Behind it is a rubber O-ring sitting in a recessed groove. I found a broken pair of binoculars and took out the ete piece. Put that in the hole and gently tapped the metal retaining ring back in to hold it in place. Seems to be sealed OK. Now if I can just fix the trottle retainer on my ISO grips, I'll be in with a chance of getting to Dent.
