Who got the pleasure of being woke up by the Illinois earthquake this morning? About 4:45 central time about 150 mile from here and it still shook our house. Everyone close to there OK? Not a good way to wake up.

I didn't feel a thing, but my kids woke up. Lots of talk on the news about it.

Holy Cow, that was about 25 miles from where I grew up in Illinois (Olney, home of the White Squirrels, one of the only natural albino squirrel populations in North America), bet I would've felt it had I been there....

Yep, felt a slight shake all the way down here in AL. Woke up thinking one of our stupid cats was on the bed and decided to do that "scratch behind the ears" thing, 'cept there was no cat. Went back to sleep.

WOW Greg! Does Olney only ("Olney ONLY?"..hey, try and say THAT three-times fast in a row...I DARE ya!) have some kind of big albino squirrel statue placed in their town square commemorating this singular but evidently very noteworthy natural occuring phenomenon, or do they maybe also have some kind of big albino squirrel museum there too, which certainly sounds to me like it would be one fun-packed afternoon of collecting very interesting squirrel insights if they did!
(And I ALSO hope that if Olney DOES have either or maybe even BOTH of these attractions that the EARTHQUAKE didn't damage 'em!!!)

We didn't feel the early one but the wife called at 11:30 am and said she felt the floor move about quarter past eleven. I felt that one a little, thought it was my cell phone going off. I work in a lot of loud and high vibration environments so it was hard to tell.

No, sorry General Weisenheimer, neither of those, but they used to have a small display where the squirrels lived in the city park. On another note, for those of you who suffered through Jr. High English, the book "Across Five Aprils" was set in the Olney area, near Newton, and the area is known as Little Egypt due to it's very fertile soil (like the Nile Valley in Egypt, duh) Other than that, not much moving there but the clocks after the big economic downturn that was the 1970's....

I actually saw a funny blog about the Earthquake. Someone from CA wrote that this was the reason so many people moved out to California. That way they could be prepared when everything EAST of the San Andreas Fault Line dropped off into the ocean!!! Got love that blind optimism!!!

Well SHOOT! Now they tell me!
Within a couple o' years I'll be movin' EAST of this big ol' fault I'm now leavin' WEST of!
(it appears my only hope now is that because Prescott sits a mile high in elevation, MAYBE it'll sit high enough to become an island situated between the "shores" of Palm Springs and the shores of Ireland!!!)

Ah, you see THAT'S the trouble with those Double-Wides, dude!
We learned out this way years ago that when one o' these big ol' suckers hit, just like a big ol' egg, those Double-Wides can sometimes crack right in two and deposit your behind right on the cinderblocks holdin' up that trailer o' yours!
Now please tell me you ain't livin' in no Double-Wide, RIGHT?!
(ya know folks if I keep this up here, I'll probably end up owing Larry The Cable Guy or Jeff Foxworthy some royalties, huh?!)

I felt a little jostle all the way down in SR Kentucky. Made me homesick.
I would be unstoppable if not for law enforcement and physics.

Come on Dwight, did you ever think that maybe I asked as a question, as in "did the Earth quake near you this morning?". I did seem to spell it right when using it in a sentence. And by the way, the Cardinals are up 9-1 in the 8th against the G-men right now!

That's in the New Madrid Fault area, the location of one of, if not the largest earthquake in American history; The New Madrid Quake of 1811-12, estimated to have been well in excess of a RS 8.0 temblor. It changed the course of the Mississippi River, some say it flowed backwards. One geologist has stated: "If another quake of the magnitude of the New Madrid Quake of 1811 should hit the region, it would be the worst natural disaster in American history. And they're due for another. Makes The San Andreas seem safe .
