I had a strange thing happen. My battery went dead awhile ago, and I charged it. Apparently I didn't tighten the black hex-head screws under the chrome faux air vent enough, because they rattled loose. I went to the hardware store and bought two M5 .80 pitch screws, after comparison to another Triumph factory screw. Oddly, they wouldn't thread into the brass screw fittings on my bike, despite the fact that the M5 nuts at the store threaded onto the Triumph screw. I returned, and bought two 10-32 screws in 3/8" length, and they threaded into the holes. I added some split lock washers to ensure that the problem won't repeat itself.

So....any ideas why the M5 screws don't fit in the holes, but the standard do? I have seen the dimensions page that lists everything as a metric screw. Thoughts?

I never checked them before but when I bought my Freak kit, one of the holes missed getting threaded. I know I used a metric tap to fix it but that was 2 years ago and I don't remember what size I used? Everything threaded fine when I was done?

You will find that these bikes take standard & metric allen wrench & sockets in some cases. I was surprised also. Can anyone explain?

Very simple. Those ever-so-fun loving impish Brits - always playing tricks. Just when you think they've finally begun to behave, they go and stick a Wentworth fastener on something. I heard there is a little guy at Triumph who's sole purpose is to hide a Wentworth on each and every bike. Oh, those zany Brits. Far more interesting than French mimes...

Good one, Barry!

(BTW...I found the wentworth bolt on my BA was the oil drain plug....where was YOURS???)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
