Hi all, I've just come back from an awesome ride through Australia's high country but besides some with rain, hail (true) and some shine there were roadworks, which has left my poor Sheila in a real state. I was wondering what the experts out there use besides soap and water, to get their bikes gleamingly shiny and back to their former glory. Particularly the black casings etc I think need some help. My Sheila just honked her horn to say thanks to anyone who can help.

Man, John it looks like you had a good time. I use simple green, it breaks up most of the road grime with a spray soak rinse. Sponge where required. armor all and stainless wipes in a can work well too
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

I don't know what type of grime you have picked up along the way, but If I get the dreaded tar flecks on my chrome, I just use a touch of lighter fluid and it wipes right off. For bringing back the shine to every part (chrome and paint) I use meguires detailer, although I don't know if you get that product in the land of Oz.
I would be unstoppable if not for law enforcement and physics.

Ah, you've been riding hard have you? The girl needs a gentle soaking to loosen the grime, followed by a rinse and then a nice soapy bubble bath. I like to use a dab of Meguiar's Swirl remover on dull spots followed by their "Hi Tech" Yellow Carnuba Show Car wax to bring the lustre back out. Meguiars Oz

Then an occasional touch up with Meguiars minute detailer until the next full blown cleaning. These guys otta be paying us.

Simple Green is nice, but remember it does remove wax too, so if you're gonna wax anyway, then go for it! Good stuff.

And here I thought this thread was gonna be about a kinky girlfriend.
The percentage you're paying is too high-priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams

tisk tisk tisk, I would never speak of my beautiful girl like that. Shame on you. She has seen better days though poor love. Thanks all for your comments peoples. It seems the maguires' range is the most popular and lucky for me Ed (thanks Bud) sent me a link to the Aus website and a stockist is 5k down the road. Apologies too for my delayed response but sadly I've just spent 3 hrs using soap and water and it's just not doing the job properly. I'll post another pic when my Sheila looks beautiful again. Not that she ever doesn't mind
