Yep, its true. Oregon is getting worse and worse when it comes to being politically correct. Forget what is right, the government likes to what is politcally correct at any cost. I know one of the fire bosses that got laid off from forest fire fighting (after many years) because he refuses to learn to speak mexican. Oregon use to be part of America, now it is a combination of communist russia and mexico. Portland's nick name is Moscow on the Willamette.
Dwight, I definitely wish I could make it to Arizona this year. Idefinitley could use some decent weather. Just cant make it happen (unless someone knows the winning lottery numbers).

FYI (Just a minor civics lesson here, not a political rant. Not on my part anyway) Russia is not Communist, it is a Semi-Presidential Federal Republic. When it was Communist, it was part of the Soviet Union; not an independent state. Before that, it was Imperial Russia, a monarchy. The history of that part of the world is really fascinating, I recommend reading about it.

I understand the rule but to lay off the boss is wrong, the workers should be required to speak English for chure.

It does seem pretty bizarre doesn't it? I've worked jobs where everyone must speak English, and it is the only language allowed on the job for safety reasons.
You have to know what someone is yelling about!!

Sounds pretty strange.
I think the feds get caught up in this kind of rationale moreso than the states, and states moreso than the counties. There aren't many hiding places for county people.

Before I got into the computer industry I spent 20 years working in paint shops. One place I worked at (Stratigic Finishing), it was a high tech paint shop (we did a lot of work for Tektronics and other high-tech companies). Anyway, I was the swing shift manager. In the Portland area, there was some deal with the government for kick-backs for hiring new legal imigrants. So there I was managing three Russians, a French speaking Jamacan, a German, a Spaniard and two Koreans. Some nights things got a bit interesting when tempers got a bit hot, everyone yelling at each other in their own languages and nobody understanding anyone. None of them spoke English well, but they were all learning (part of the requirement for them to work there from the boss).

At times I guess it may have been good, but the reason tempers flared usually was because they coulnt understand each other. After about six months though, they actually communicating very well (in mostly english) and ended up being the best crew I ever managed.

I figured it was good because there's the possibility that if they understood what was being said with hot tempers, it may have escalated to physical. And that's not good .

Luckily it never went that far, somethimes you may have thought that it could. The Spaniard and the French Jamacian were the one the ones with the hotest tempers.
