I want to ad a pair of high straight risers on my speedmaster, I know I'll have to drill out the holes in the tree for the wider bolts (harley risers) but whats the max height I could go on the risers before I'd have to get longer cables?
what I'm doing is I want to come up about 2" higher than stock and replace the bars with a more straighter drag bar thats narrower too.
also I want to remove the speedo completely because of the higher risers blocking it and then just base my speed off the tach,, is that just a disconnect or has anyone tried it, someone locally said I'd have to plug the tranny where it ties in because fluid will leak out? bike is still put away so I havent got to look it over yet.

Remove the Speedometer and cable from the front wheel. Our Speedos don't run off the engine or transmission. I would find a way to cap the open end of the speedo drive on the front wheel to keep it clean.

how about the risers? or if I do try to go higher do any of you guys know what the max height would be?
or lets say I want to get higher bars, how would I get the longer cables or who would carry them?

Take the measurement of the new bars (width+pullback) and add the height of the new risers, then measure the old bars (width+pullback) and add the height of the old risers and see where that gets you for a numerical value and that will tell the tale on the cables.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

i have 6" risers with shortened dragbars just like youre talking about. The previous owner installed them so I dont know if he drilled anything, but I know that I have all the stock cables. Also i have no problem what so ever reading the speedo with the added height of the bars. Keep in mind im 6'1" and have a longer torso. PM me your email address if you'd like to see pics of my bike.

Tom your trees are drilled I think. I don't remember for sure but if they weren't drilled you have adapters for the studs.

You dont need to drill. You can get adapters.... http://www.scootworks.com/partskawhandle.htm Down towards the bottom of the page.

Broken,
I would like to see some pictures of your bike. I'm thinking about doing something similar and want to see if it might work for me. I'm only 5'7, and curious as to how bent over I might be on a set up like that.
