A couple of weeks ago the film Lords of Dogtown was on TV. It´s a movie about the legendary z-boys who started the skateboarding trends that originated in Venice, California during the 1970's. After watching the film i got nostalgic and went out to the garage and dug out my old skateboard, one of the trucks where broken but otherwise it still was in pretty good shape. Just had to ride that oldschool board again so i ordered new Tracker trucks from USA and got them yesterday. Me and my daughter who is 11 years old and have her own board went out on the street and it was so fun to skate again! Skated for 2,5 hours and it shure did bring back memories of the late 70´s ...... and the old man still rocks Next thing is to try out the U- ramp at my son´s school, he´s 14 and says that i am lame and only going hurt myself, but i will show him how it´s done! Here are some pic´s my ride Board: DogTown "Bob Biniak" Bullet design Wheels: Kryptonics C 65 Red Trucks: Rear: Trucker Dart. Front: Trucker Torch Bearings: SKF If there is any other OldSchool skaters on the forum speak up, now i am going listen to some old Ramones hits and dream of the youth again....... Ride on! Johann

In the late 70's I used to work for a motorfactors and believe it or not we used to sell skateboards by the truck load. We also used to sell all the spare parts, wheels, murials and all the pads etc.
I never ever had a go on one and I must of sold thousands of them, I think I thought myself a little old
You have some fun Johann, and remember it will hurt if you fall off now..

On a similar vein went to a local gym a couple of weeks ago watched the folks doing Karate ...and being a bit nostalgic and remembering how good I thought I was decided on joining. Well a couple of classes under my belt (sic) muscles that had long ago given up any hope of working properly had settled down. The instructor had us doing some free sparring. A young guy early 20s is facing me and I forgot how scarily fast the young can be. The skinny little runt went on to show me how old I am now. Then the moment of reconning came with age comes wisdom and trickery. He the young buck decided he would show off with the "old guy" who by then had rememberd some old techniques that the youngster probably had never seen or heard of. The look of horror on his face to find out the "old guy" could put him down and none to gently was worth it. The guys in the club are now very wary when we all spar together, because you can see in there eyes that they just dont know what experience you have tucked away. But for those few minutes I was Bruce Lee again. Its great reliving some of our youth and knowing sometimes we can still turn on the old magic.

Takes me back to when I was a youngster and boxing I thought I was the bees knees until one day a guy a little older and a lot more experience showed me exactly what it was all about. Took me over a year to finally nail him in the ring. Maybe why these days I get really bad headaches all those punches in and out of the ring

When I was a youngster all we really did was find the biggest hill possible and ride them down it. When I was losing interest kicktail boards were starting to make an appearance. Oh and polyurathane wheels were starting to be used too.

I got into skateboarding a little bit, but then I switched to rollerblading..which happens to be skateboardings arch enemy. Skateboarding was to rollerblading like cruisers are to crotchrockets. We used to get a lot of flak cause skateparks have 80% skateboarders in them. heres a link to some video footage of me and my buddies grinding handrails and jumping off roofs. Im the guy that always wears the hat, that skates trough fire. http://youtube.com/watch?v=QH6dsZ1ZecY

Urethane wheels are for wusses The only skateboard I ever owned had steel wheels, and I've still got some nice scars from that thing. Like you said Ian, no tricks, just try to get to the bottom of the hill alive. Sometimes you made it, most times you didn't.

Hello mate,
I used to skate in that era. My last board had was a similar set-up to yours. An Alva deck, lime green Kryptonics and Trucker mid-trucks. I did most of my skating in Brighton, England which had it's own version of the Dog Town Boys - Brighton was known as Pig City!! I used to skate with a bloke called Mark Baker who went over to Santa Monica and gave Jay Adams and his mates a run for their money.
Just did a quick Google search and found this - http://www.skateamerica.com/sitemap/content/pages/Skateboarding-about-Ian-Deacon-Bio-1571.html
They were good days!

Some times we added to the fun and sat on the board facing another person on their board. We put our feet on the other persons board and grabbed each other wrists and went down the hill like a catamaran.

Back in the day I rode a skateboard ~~ but the first time on a half pipe cured me of all visions of granduer. I rode BMX and I like to take my youngest son (11 ~~ he now skates) to the skatepark and watch the bikers ride the half pipe and jump the ramps ~~ absolutely amazing.

I lived in Venice, CA. I was never a real thrasher, but I used to have my huskies pull me down the boardwalk on my board.
I would be unstoppable if not for law enforcement and physics.

Sounds like fun too. I tried having one of my huskies pull me on cross country skiis . . . I thought it would be clever if I tied the leash around my waist. That was until I face planted and he kept running.
