Hmmm...seems like some roads that I wanted to go on are closed still. So much for global warming and melting icecaps! Anyway, option 1 is my original idea. WA DOT says 410 is closed, but we can try and ride it as far as we can go. Maybe we get lucky and it opens up on a lovely sunny day like Thursday will be: Option 1 Thunder in the Mountains 1. We meet somewhere in Kent (maybe Denny's by Rt 167) at 10 AM 2. We ride over to Bent Bike and admire the assortment of "stuff" they have there. Meanwhile, Karen will quietly hypnotize Kirk's fiancee and convince her she must get a TBA (new or used). 3. We pick up Rt 167 South and ride to Rt. 18 East. 4. From Rt. 18 East, we get off and head on Rt 164 to Enumclaw. There is a Chevron station there that I usually tank up at. 5. Pick up Rt 410 and head to Mt. Rainier, pray that 410 is open all the way through. Here's a view from the east end of 410, after Chinook Pass (Whistlin Jacks). If we make it through, we could stop there for a pitstop:
6. After an exhilarating and very scenic ride on Rt. 410 (if open all the way through), we pick up Rt 12 west of Naches. I've never ridden Rt. 12 but I expect the views to be great. Going over White Pass may be a bit chilly but the road looks clear and dry:
7. In Morton, we can pick up Rt. 7 North to Puyallup. 8. Depending upon the time of day, we can hop over to Eagle Leather in Lakewood or just take 512 back up to 167 and then people can head home. Option 2 Riding Practice and Odometer Check If you really want to check out Rt. 12 and want to put some miles on your bike. 1. We meet up somewhere in Issaquah at 10AM. Maybe the Starbucks in Issaquah?? 2. Stop by I-90 Motorsports. 3. Take I-90 East to I-82 South to Yakima. 4. Take Rt 410 to Whistlin Jacks and pitstop. 5. Double back on Rt 410 and pick up Rt. 12 West to Morton. 6. In Morton, we can pick up Rt. 7 North to Puyallup. 7. Depending upon the time of day, we can hop over to Eagle Leather in Lakewood or just take 512 back up to 167 and then people can head home. Option 3 Oyster Run Practice Run & Fresh Mountain Air
1. We can meet up in Snohomish at the same English Pub (Piccadilly Circus?) at 10 AM. 2. From there, work our way over to Mukilteo and take the ferry across to Clinton. Z will have to help me map this part out. Or maybe drop down to Cycle Barn and pay a visit. 3. Ride Rt 525 up to where it changes to Rt. 20. 4. Follow Rt. 20 east all the way to Rockport. 5. Take Rt. 530 South to Darrington and onto Arlington. 6. Take Rt. 9 south and go back to Snohomish and English Pub for a pitstop. 7. Everyone head home from there. Option 4 Ride the Peninsula!! 1. Z...Help me with routing on this one!!! So what will it be me mateys? I gave you work avoiding scallywags 4 choices to escape the drudgery of work....choose your poison!!!

I am in for 1-3-4-not 2 at this time of year..too much sand on I-90 and truckers just off their disorganized strike over fuel prices..Lets stay on this side of mountains!!Highway 410 usually opens on memorial day weekend ..rarely before so perhaps 3 or 4 will be doable...But I am willing to go with the flow!!!What does everyone else think??Triumph of Tacoma says the suspension seminar will be of value to all bikes..cruisers included!!Still undecided about that plan for thursday evening

Bob, I think you know Pierce County and that area better than I. If you can suggest a good route down there for Thursday, that would be fine with me. That way we don't have to deal with some of the traffice between Kent and points north.

Hmmm...Bob makes a good point about the truckers and sand. Karen and I had this idea of heading out to the outlets in North Bend yesterday....bad bad bad idea. We got about 10 miles and had to turn back due to snow and horrible weather.
The workshop at Tacoma sounds like a good idea. I really wish Karen and I could make that. You guys will just have to share your learning next time.
I kind of like Option 3. That will get Karen and me back in time to get to our appointment and it is some great riding up that way.
If you want an idea for the Kitsap loop....here’s what I have in my arsenal: * cross into Kitsap at Bremerton via ferry out of Seattle. * Bremerton then south via 3 south to 106 south to 101 north all along Hood Canal. * Options here... 1) head north on 101 to Port Townsend then south on 19 to 104 to 305... 2) head north on 101 towards Port Townsend then cut east on 104 to 305... ***both options have more options...we can cross back to Edmonds from Kingston or go south to Bainbridge and cross back into Seattle. The above takes out around the outside edge of Hood Canal and either way we have to cross the bridge.
We can also go to the inside edge of Hood Canal. Looks like some great riding but I’ve never done it so I would be hesitant to take a group out onto some of those great twisty looking back roads…those roads look great though. We can still do this bust stay on some of the better known roads.
Again...my vote is for Option 3.

Option 3 - Revised Oyster Run Practice Run & Fresh Mountain Air
1. We can meet up in Lynnwood someplace for breakfast (suggestions anyone??) at 10AM. I forgot that Piccadilly Circus is not open for breakfast weekdays. 2. From wherever we meet, we head to Bent Bike in Lynnwood. Mapquest showing location of Bent Bike. If people want, we can also swing by Cycle Barn and see if the salespeople know where to put the ignition key of a TBA. 3. Take Rt 525 up to Mukilteo and take the ferry across to Clinton. 4. Ride Rt 525 up to where it changes to Rt. 20. 5. Follow Rt. 20 east all the way to Rockport. 6. Take Rt. 530 South to Darrington and onto Arlington. 7. Take Rt. 9 south, ride back to Snohomish and Piccadilly Circus for a pitstop. 8. Everyone head home from there.

Yeah same here Z. I did not want to bring her home. Heck, I even scraped my heel, leaning in and making a turn today!! woohoo!!! Sounds like revised option 3 is the winner, I need a suggestion as to where we can all meet up. Do we want to have breakfast somewhere or just meet at Cycle Barn? Kirk, make sure you bring your fiancee with you. The more, the merrier. Plus Z will have someone else to talk with, since I can't hear him with my ear plugs in.

Steve...did you say something...what, huh!
Hey...seriously though...I know we are setting a start meeting time of 10am and you and Bob need to hit the road about 9am but lets keep and eye on the morning weather. No need to try and ride if the roads may be frozen etc...
Theres a Starbucks on the corner of 168th and 99. Its up the street from CB and Bent Bike.

Surely there must be more. Oh cool, I just noticed that the WA DOT camera pics, I posted at the start of thread, keep refreshing on a regular basis.

Ive often thought it should be common practice for new America/Speedy owners to be given an invitation to this site.

OK Final Plan is as follows: Oyster Run Practice Run & Fresh Mountain Air1. We meet up in Lynnwood. According to Z, theres a Starbucks on the corner of 168th and 99. Bob, myself and possibly one of Bob's friends will get there around 10-ish, depending upon traffic flow on I-405. 2. From Starbucks, we head to Bent Bike and/or Cycle Barn in Lynnwood. 3. Take Rt 525 up to Mukilteo, take the ferry across to Clinton. Kirk, will you be meeting us, with your future better half in tow? Anyone know if Snort will make it? Anyone else out there who wants to join up with us? Tomorrow's supposed to be better than today. I was going to wash my bike, but decided to wait until after tomorrow. See y'all tomorrow!

Kirk, Meet up with us at Piccadilly Circus in Snohomish afterwards. We won't get there until way after 1 PM. Or maybe you can catch up with us after you get out of your "Mutha of a meeting".
Come on...you can do it...

So...some of us played hookie today. Unfortunately Murphy and his stupid laws were with us and Steve (Conwy) went down. He was able to walk away...kinda (he was limping slowly and was having a hard time moving his left arm). Thank goodness for gear...****** be getting some new stuff now and has some souvenirs of this trip for sure. We got him and his bike to the shop and a family member came to get him back teh rest of the way (to the hospital for xrays and probably some really good pills). Pictures to come later...of what we will now call "Steves Curv" and the incident.
What I really need/want to see is a post from Steve with an update on his injuries.

Steve, I hope you are doing ok. I went down back in November on some black ice so I know how it feels. When you can, give us a status update. Get well!

Howdy bros. Sorry to hear about the lousy turn of events. Am very happy to know dude is still able to use limbs, etc. I'm hopin for a full and quick recovery for him. This should remind us all that though spring is springing, we gotta be vigilant on the road. Thanks for the call Z. Ok, that's all from me for now..I'll look forward to hearing/seeing updates. See y'all around. snorty.

Sorry to here that. Hope he's Ok, and that he gets back on the horse soon. I buddy of mine went down a couple of years ago. He hangs around bike shops but still dosn't have the nerve to buy.
