...My first "real" bike was a 46 Honda CB450...

Okay Mike, I give up. How in the world did you have a "46" Honda CB450 when as far as I remember the first Black Bombers(which as far I also remember were in first CB450s) weren't made until around the mid-1960s???

(and folks...according to Mike's PM to me he stated that that "46" o' his was NOT a typo and then told me to "figure it out, Grasshopper"!!!)

Now, my first M/C was also a Honda, but quite a bit smaller than that CB450 of yours, which I would have really liked to have owned back then but couldn't afford. However, now that I really remember back to those "salad days" o' mine, I recall liking the CL450 Scramblers a little bit more. Scramblers were all the rage back then, ya know! But my third M/C was a used CL72 Scrambler, very similar to the one posted by Tony above, but it was a 250cc and not a 305cc.

Oh, I almost forgot...My first bike was a Honda CL50, bought when I was 15 y/o. That was the little sucker which "infected" me with this lifelong "motocycle bug" still coursing through these likely much more hardened arteries o' mine nowdays!

My dad bought me a Honda 55 trail bike, I don't even remember the year. It was brand new and red, and had 2 rear sprockets on the rear wheel, 1 big one and another small one. I had a blast on it!

My first bike was a 1968, Triumph Bonneville. I rode it almost daily until I moved to Kentucky.I bought it in 1984, and I only recently sold it (the kick-start was killing me).

If that bike was tuned right it should have only taken 1 kick to start maybe 2 when cold.

First bike was an early 70's Bultaco 250 Alpina. It would climb a tree, but reliability wasn't it's strong suit. I rode it on the street for a short while, but it kept breaking so I bought a stone-cold reliable '77 KZ400 in these colors (still have a warm place in my heart for root-beer brown). Put a Hooker header on it and rode the snot out of it, somehow managing not to kill myself (I was 16).

LOL! I guess it really is! It was the bike I learned on (right about 1979 or so). It was actually my next door neighbors bike, but I did eventually end up owning it.

OK Dwight, here goes, (listen up, it gets a little weird) I was living in Tokachibuto up on Hokkaido in Japan at the time. They still used the wareki calendar for vehicles. Otherwise known as the year of the Emperor. When my bike was built it was the 46th year of the reign of Hirohito. Actually it was an S46 because they give the emperors a posthumous name (Hirohito's is Showa) They do this before the guy dies. In case you're interested (and even if you're not ) The current emperor, Akihito's posthumous name is Heisei and this year is H20. So, you could buy a bike one year and it would be , say a 49, and a couple of years later buy one and it would be a 2. (there is no year 1, don't ask) By the way, if my 46 CB450 (I'd still like to have it) had been sold in the US, it would have been a 71 (1971 that is). Aren't you glad you asked?
Mike

Back in 78 my dad, aunt, and uncle all went out and bought the same yamaha enduros and were riding them all the time. When i was about 3 or 4 my dad was riding me on the gas tank and we'd go riding in the woods all the time. Hed climb these hills and end up ditching the bike and I was always getting pinned under the thing with the throttle stuck doing 50mph laying on top of me..haha...so he bought me a quad with i was 5 and i road that until i was 12 which was the suggested age for it, and i started riding the 250. We still have all 3...my dad and my aunts I pretty much destroyed riding them when i was a teenager. They still run, sitting outside with a tarp over top. Those things look like sht and will still start with a couple kicks. My uncle kept his in mint condition and still has it with the original blinkers and everything still intact.

When I was in the army at Nellingen DE, Italian students used to spend their summers working in the messhall kitchen. I was really impressed that they rode their mopeds over the Alps to get there.

1967 Sears 106 SS (Gilera). One on eBay right now (mine was red). No ignition key, no battery, just kick it and go. Had a blast with that bike - from the Florida Keys to Georgia. Got a CB350 for HS graduation.

My first is my trusy 04 America. I actually learned on a Honda Rebel just in case and out grew that in about 1.5 days. I don't think I will ever out grow my America, I have bonded just like I knew I would when I first saw it.

My first bike was a Hodaka 90 which was such a piece of junk. After having a head on collision(with my cousin on the back) my nutty parents let me use my savings($495 brand new) for a 1970 Kawasaki Centurion. They just sold Steve McQueens for $55,000 - Wish I still had it!

Och....you are a nightmare.
A 3HW was built by Triumph, specifically for the British Armed Forces during WWII

It's a 350 ohv single, and amongst Triumphs is annoying....sorry unique for the time as the cylinder head and rocker boxes were cast in one piece.
Mine is not like the pic above...but the old man's is. His is khaki, mine is black with chrome bits. Bit like my Americas really....I've had questions as to whether I'm gonna return to military get up...no, as if I want one like that I'll borrow my dad's!
And I do have a pic of mine in photopost..... And I'll do a post about it soon....once it's mot'd and registerd.

Yep same with the 74 ,I think, DT360 I had, it was a 400 with a shorter stroke. Loved that bike,I would still have it if it hadn't been stolen. Bought my junk bucket Pan after that. I rode that 360 to and from the Poconos from Bethlehem up the highways almost every weekend. Then would play in the dirt with it too. That bike was great fun and never gave me 1 problem that wasn't of my own doing. Also used to ride my grandfathers 66 Yamaha YL-100, a 1966 twin cyl. 100CC bike. You want to talk about comical pistons! Imagine the size of 2 50cc pistons in there! LOL That was a good bike though too bad it sold at auction after he died. I should have kept that. It had 6,000 miles on it and was like new. Sold for like $300.

I also owned a mid 70's Yammy DT400. Had a blast on that thing. Liz and I toured all over on that shaking, smoking single. I have some photos of me riding a wheelie over the historic (and closed to traffic..) Burnside Bridge at Antietam Battlefield. I think the statute of limitations might have ran out on that one, maybe I'll scan it.

Yep, that's what it looked like except mine was green and only said Yamaha on the tank. Great fun I would love to find another 360 in good shape and cheap.

Found the picture. Now there are vehicle barricades at the entrance to each side, preventing this vulgar display of nonsense. I don't think MD had a helmet law during those years....

First of all, I want to let everyone know that I'm an "old geezer", with that being said, my first bike was a 1953 125cc Harley-Davidson "Hummer", my second bike was a 1954 Harley-Davidson KH, but my third bike was the best, it was a brand new 1962 Triumph "Bonneville." There have been many bikes in between, but last year I bought a 2007 Triumph
Bonneville Black and I'm still riding it every chance I get...

believe it was a 74.Then in 78 I bought my first new bike a Kawasaki KE 175 I kept it 20 years and wish I still had it. Knocked a whole on the side cover one day ridding in the woods and ran it out of oil and sent it to the grate motorcycle junkyard in the sky.Plenty of others but those got me started.

My first bike was a brand new 06 vstar 1100, too big and heavy for me, i only put 5000 miles on it over the course of the summer. It was totalled when a tropical storm went throught Norfolk, so i waited a couple of months and bought a 07 Speedy, what i should have bought in the first place as i only lived 1/4 mile from the dealership at the time! Now I'm 45 miles to the closest dealer, drat!

Tote Goat. Made in Utah. Crashed a lot in fields and "runnin' down the ditch" when I was too young to drive. The ditch was a block from my house ran for a couple of miles before ending up in the country. With my paper route money and his saved allowance, a friend and I bought a "motorcycle" like the one pictured below. We kept it at his house as my mom would have killed me if she knew I was riding.

First real bike was a 1967? BSA Victor 441, bought in 1970. Mine was definitely not in as good as shape as this one. I was a terror on the streets and tore up the dirt as well. How did I live through my younger years?
