Does any one remember a problem with the 2002 BA left header pipe? I heard there was a factory defect, and would like to know more about it. I did a search and read a bunch of postings about pipes, but no answer. Do the archives close after 5pm or just not working?

archives not working. Never heard of a defect but that doesn't mean there wasn't one.

I am not an archive, in fact I have many burnt neurons and synapses that don't fire right anymore, but...
I seem to remember some mention of the welds on the heat shields breaking loose. I don't know if this was exclusive to the 2002's or not.
And I don't remember any specific problems other than that with header pipes on any year.

I've got a 2002. The only difference with those header pipes and other years, was cosmetic. The 2002 did not have the heat shield on the lower bend which made it look unfinished. They started putting that shield on, on the 2003 models. Other then that don't know of any other issues with the 2002.

I have a bit of a problem with the right side on my '03. When mounted, it doesn't point straight back, and puts the joint in a bind.

The only problem I have on my '02 is that my D&Ds won't slide on. I need to take them to a muffler shop and have the small ends spread a little bit.
Oh, and the gap in the heat shield thing Fred mentioned. That should make it fun when I wrap them. And by fun I mean look like crap.

My '05 had a very slight flare on the ends that made it almost impossible to get my Epcos on. Filed around the end a bit and they slid right on.

John, as you wrap just stick a little piece of beer can under the wrap to bridge the gap.Maybe a coffee can since it's heavier and tin instead of aluminum but that would also be stiffer and harder to bend to the shape and hole in place.

Never mind I just saw what the 02 headers were like and the gap is larger than I pictured and goes around the bend to boot. I had pictured just a small gap between the upper shield and the non existent corner shield.
