Folks, I got them installed and thought I would share my experience... with pictures...cause we all like pictures.... First the hardware... Here is what comes with the bags: It’s fairly obvious you will need to go out and buy additional hardware so here is what I wound up going out and buying... I made sure all parts were stainless steel to prevent rusting and you’ll notice I made the effort to find rubber washers. Stay tuned and you’ll see why.... So ... after reading many postings about that darn caliper I did the left side first. I found a 50 degree angle on the brackets to work best...here’s a pic of the brackets on the bike...I held the camera a little crooked but the bike was on a jack and level. I used a level to make sure...LOL. Here’s why I went with 50 degrees...I a bit AR at times and I like things to align.... Notice the angle of the bag and the lip that is molded into to allow it to mount closer to the bike. To get the bags lined up to the correct height I used a long level across the back and stacked boxes and stuff till I got one where I wanted it, marked the back (I put on some masking tape so I could mark and make a template for the other bag)... (YES...I have it and if you want it just ask. BUT use carefully...it’s not perfect. I transferred it to cardboard). Anyway.... Holes drilled and mock up looked good so it was time to get to the serious mounting.... Here are the washers. I layered them as follows... Top left...rubber fender washer. Top right...rubber fender washer with stainless fender washer on top. bottom left...small washer added for additional shock absorption and to allow the not so perfect mounting brackets to mount without unnecessary pressure on the fiberglass bags. Next I mounted the brackets to the bag...trust me...this is way easier than trying to mount the bag to the brackets while they are already on the bike....ask me how I know... I used the button head screws inside the bags with the stainless fender washers. The washers sandwich the bag for better support and pressure distribution. I prefer the button heads to prevent some scratching that might happen to contents if they are not protected. I plan on covering the heads at some point. I should have taken a pic of the inside of the bags...Ill add it later. Next are some shots of spacing and alignment...I am having some nice Stainless spacers made so in the mean time I just used some nuts I bought and a couple washers the kit came with. Not back looking but again...I’m a tad AR at times... Top view between bag and fender...sorry but there is reflection off the dirty paint and shiny bags. I set them back a bit cause I wanted the bag to flow with the fender as best as I could get it to. Full rear shot...no lights yet. Left side spacing...cleared that caliper baby... Side view...They are slightly tilted forward.

A solo fender rack will set your very nice install off perfectly. Those bags look like a factory match; good job, well documented.

WOW…Your welcome. Id like to thank the academy, my parents…ooops…wrong crowd. Seriously…I feel the same as you do. I have had so much help and received so much info from the people on this site that it makes me want to contribute back when I can. SO again…thank you for the kind words!

I’m keeping the OEM lights for now, just shortening the stems so they land between the bags and fender. I keep checking out the Kuryakyn Silver Bullets so maybe in time Ill swap over to those.

I have one and removed it for now. I ordered the fender medallion for the RIII and it looks good...for now...until I change my mind again.

I'm knee deep in a hard bag install as I post this. I just opened a set of the luggage racks that came from the hard bag maker, Tsukayu. One rack is rusty, and both racks have very wimpy / tiny mounting brackets. I'm not exactly looking forward to mailing them back to Hong Kong. I just placed an order with Brent for two more of these http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/solo_rack.htmlso all three will now match, and can actually hold lashed on items. The Tsukayu racks are apparently just for show? I'll try to get a comparison picture up later tonight. Also Z, take a close look inside the bag where the smaller side of the locking latch attaches. On mine, the rivets barely make it through the fiberglass, and are essentially glued in place, so I'm going to drill and bolt mine, for if the smaller side of the locking latch falls off from vibration, getting another one in short order could be quite a challenge.

Go Bucky, Go! Funny, we were just talkin' about this Thurs. The alignment above looks perfect. The curve of the sushi bags seems to match the fender. Three of the Brent racks are gonna look cool. Give you a good place to lash your gazebo!

Just checked mine and they are all in there solid. The rivets go all the way through the fiberglass and seem fine. I may look into getting some longer rivets and using small washers on the inside to keep them a little more solid.
I wonder if anyone has had an issue with the latches falling off or coming loose. If they have Ive never heard of it...anyone...anyone at all?
Good looking out Bucky!

Z.....I'm assuming you're adding an engine guard to the front of the bike.....right....or are there guards that protect the bags in case of a tip-over? Thanks..Don

Installed my hardbags over the last few days. This post made the whole process a whole lot easier. Just follow Z's instructions above and it's a relative piece of cake. Only issue that I had was on the last hole I drilled on the 2nd bag. I was not paying attention and went through to the liner, caught it with the bit and wound some of the fabric up. No big deal though. Just watch yourself. One more thing that I had access to that made life a whole lot easier was a lift just like the one here: http://www.e-zspreadnlift.com/. Just laid the bags on that and adjusted them to where I wanted them. Awesome tool.

When I got mine, one of the rivets was about to let go. I just put another rivet in it. It has held just fine, even when overstuffing the bags.
