I’m looking for a new tent....my last one was a cheap and cheerful set up from ASDA... but it leaked like a sieve...Just wondering if someone can recommend a good tent at a reasonable price?
Thanks
John

If you want a inexpensive tent it's tough to beat Coleman's. I've had one for years and never a problem. Coleman

Hiya John These are not cheap, but a few of us use them. Look at the QE section ... the Biker is the one I have, there's a 'porch' area at the front which is good for your clobber. They also do a purpose-made groundsheet for 'em, they're the right shape etc. A mate put me onto them and he's used his for 10 years or so he says.

Hey TinkleCrumpet! er, uh, I mean FunkleTrumpet (sorry, I didn't have my glasses on) I know we've strayed from the mother tongue over here, but how do I know if I've got any clobber to keep in my tent? Mike

Try www.campmor.comI have had several Kelty tents and been in torrential downpours and never leaked. They are pretty economical compared to brands such as North Face etc. My advice...pay a little extra and get quality. Buy Walmart, Kmart etc and you will leak in alot of rain.
2003 Red and Black Speedy. What do I want to change on my bike next????

Coleman
Colemans over here ARE expensive. Also, we bought some at Guides and they leaked....on their first use.
I have cheap tents and they have never leaked for me. I use them pretty regularly as a Guide Leader and with the bikes, and have had no problems. I also take the view that if a cheap tent falls of the back of the bike it doesn't matter. If a cheap tent leaks after 6 months of use (in my case - for most others that's after 2 years) then it's been well used. I am lucky cos I know of tent outlet shops (yeah really) down here, and other places that I get discount of the expensive stuff with my Guide Card. Or know of people doing DofE that get discount where I don't and give them the cash... We splashed out with the Guides new tents, but we got a nice grant to pay for them and they came with a 3 year guarantee.
If you are only gonna camp at Dent this year, and possibly one other weekend then go really cheap. If you are considering doing more go mid range. I really don't recommend going really expensive. The more you spend on a tent the less beer money...

Oh boy! I can't wait to watch THIS ACTION unfold between THESE TWO come mid-May!!!
Hmmmm...I'm startin' to wonder if maybe gettin' a translator to Prescott somehow might not be such a bad idea afterall.

(I can't be everywhere at once, ya know)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I may not win the prettiest bike competition...but if there’s a category for the prettiest tent then I’ll win hands down. I Could even paint my bike to match...now that would be one slick custom paint job .... even the guy’s from OCC would be envious.

LED message board, huh?! Not a bad idea! However FT, I think you two guys will be able to work this out somehow. Ya know, Mike was there last year and I have to say he's pretty quick on the ol' uptake and doesn't seem the sort to let a little thing like a possible communication problem get him frustrated and then pi$$ed...err..angry at all. (figured I better clarify that "pi$$ed" thing here...Oh, he'll DRINK alright...you can count on THAT!!!)

Just go get a can or bottle of tent & gear UV waterproofing, and waterproof the tent before using it. Even the most expensive tents will need to be treated once in a while.

Hi ya John, If you are still looking for a tent for Dent, try going down to Sandy Lane, There is a big camping caravan place with a load of tents outside on display (well not many there yet, still to early in the season). Go after it has been raining and pick the one that has not leaked.
