Funny that in the post where we talked about the super hero comics and movies we had said it would be cool if they used Black Sabbaths song Iron Man for the theme. Well I just watched Beowulf and there was a preview for the Iron Man movie and they were in fact playing that song. It looks as though it may be the theme song! How cool is that?
On a side note, I was suprised to find Beowulf was animated not live action, was still pretty good.

Watch the extras on the DVD if you can. I was very interested in how they did the film. The actors did act out the movie in front of cameras but wearing body suits in a studio that was flooded with infrared light to pick up the points on the suits. They used wire frame furniture and props to simulate everything. At one point Barry Sonnenfeld, the director points out that they have filmed more in two hours then they could have gotten in six weeks of actual filming. They then took the film and were able to add textures and backgrounds to fill in the film. This technique also made it faster to animate. I can see a lot of animated films going this route. You get more of the realistic facial expression and body movement of actors plus cut the animation time.
As for Iron Man, it looks great and I've already told Nancy that she can't take Adam to see it until I get back from Georgia.

There was a Beowulf film made a few ears ago with real people.
I have often wondered why Hollywood is so in love with Greek, Roman and Norse folklore and pretend that Celtic lore doesn't exist. The tales of the Scotts and Irish heroes and gods would make really good screen plays. Even Mac da Tho's pig is a better story than a lot of the crap they are filming these days.

I think alot of that has to do with schooling. You learn a lot about Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology in high school but very little about Celtic.

I was surprised when beowulf was animated, dissapointed at first, but then, it turned out to be a pretty good movie. Excellant story. Actually, I wish they would make a movie about Thor,Loki, Odin and all that bunch. It's never been done, that I know of.

If you all didn't watch Beofulf in IMAX you missed out. Spectuacualr in IMAX for sure. Since I do this for a living I was able to catch the subtle mistakes in the Stereoscopic effect, some were minor, some were huge. I still think that they should let the animators animate instead of trying of clean up motion capture data; it is time consuming and at the end the brain is no longer fooled that it is in fact 3d and not live action. Motion capture makes the characters look like lifeless zombies, something animators can improve a heck of a lot. Anyway, a huge step forward from The Polar Express (zombie-ville). Iron Man is going to freaking rock! Here is the trailer http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/

Gosh, it's been so long since I've read one of Marvels' Iron Man I'm not certain I'd remember all of the original story line.

The old Bill Bixby series 'The Incredible Hulk' did a show with Marvel Comic's version of Thor. Thor was upset with the geek-scientist that brought him to life (or to this dimension, however they explained it) and said, " I need Drink! Women! And the company of men like Myself!" So he took Thor to a Biker Bar! (Back when that still meant something)

There was a Peter Cushing movie, The Hound of the Baskervilles.
I remember another Thor movie but only vaguely.
I remember most of the original Iron Man story, I hope they stick to it,so far so good since Stan Lee is involved. They haven't monkeyed with things too badly in the ones done so far. The accident, the chest plate/iron lung thing, to the suit. He was held in captivity and made the first suit to escape when he was supposed to be doing something for his captors, can't remember what anymore. He needs his suit to keep his heart going at first then makes a smaller version to keep his heart going that doesn't show through his clothes. That's the best I can remember the story.

Nope you got it right. Although the second one is made just to be an improvement since the first was made with whatever he could get his hands on.

I wonder if anyone ever bought the rights to "The Red Branch" by Morgan Llewellyn? It was IMO, a great novel about the life of said Hound of Ulster.
