You can't carry much beer in them things can ya? I mean, they're surely not for tools are they? We don't need no stankin' tools!

Looks like you should fill them up with chain oil and dig a little hole in the side so it give the chain a bit of a lube. Look good but i bet they are a bugger to keep clean. Herb

OK... OK... I know I am an unfit Parent... The Bike is dirty, The obvious neglect to the chain is rare... (Jango is a bad influence) we do too much riding and not enough garage bonding.
Anyyyyy Way. check my gallery to see the mods. Basically I had to Dremal the mounting brackets off. Sparks Rock!!!
The chain is now... not only cleaned, but also oiled.
If my name was not Beavis... I would probably be embarassed!!!
But I guess I do care since I am sitting here @ 2am writing about this...
Peace

The Department of Motorcycle Chain Neglect will be conducting weekly visits to your garage to ensure the welfare of your bike. If the neglect continues a foster parent will take charge of your bike. Thank you for your cooperation.

Although I am almost convinced that spending many hours on maintaining a vehicle is virtuous, I believe that most pieces of equipment can take more beating and neglect than we're lead to believe.
For instance, I bought a 1989 Nissan King Cab 10 years ago and drove it until I'd racked up some 140,000, then donated it to "Cars For Kids" as a tax right-off (got more in tax relief than I would have gotten selling it!). In that time, I changed the oil twice. Twice! I'll say that a third time just for effect: Twice.
So apart from the lube shops who bombard me with the "Oh, you MUST change oil every 3,000 miles" who else wants to tell me how I managed to drive some 6000 miles per year for ten years without the truck dying?
So go ahead, lube the chain every three weeks, but I bet you could go a year. I now wonder whether some of this "frequent lubing" talk is just BS to get me (and everyone else) to fork out cash. It's like the old joke: "Why do you throw banana skins on the floor?" "To keep the elephants away." "But there are no elephants in Ohio." "See, it works!"
Siggy
If life wasn't so pointless and absurd, I would take it more seriously.

That was answered early on in your post: Quote:
Nissan
Says it all. I had a similar Nissan and ran up over 200k on the truck and never put a cent into it, other than gas and new oil every year, or so.

I say, those are the most beautiful little bags I have ever seen in my entire life. Yes sir, things of beauty. I just can't keep my eyes off them. I sure wish I had some on my bike too. I am so envious. You lucky dog.

The bags are great, you actually have me considering a pair. I've been looking for a good alternative to the solo frame finishers I've seen offered.
