Well, this is the first day near the web for days...
despite getting my annual Influenza vaccine...I have been hit hard by the flu bug...dirty little SOB...this is day 4 of temps between 100 and 103...the hair on my baby toes aches!!...the pain from the chills and aches from the full body tremors, is becoming a welcomed friend, as it distracts me from the constant vice-like pressure that surrounds my head! The mear effort of taking a breath is reinforced with ribbons of pain that run from my sternum around the outside of my ribs and down to the base of my spine...And this is how I feel today!! when I feel well enough to explain my absence...
to make matters even worse Aunt Cathy is only about 18 hours behind me in the progression....when I thought of the two of us getting all sweaty together and not getting out of bed for 4 flippin days....this IS'NT WHAT I WAS THINKING!!!

here is the symptoms (for those who have never had the FLU)

Hour 1: slight scratchy throat

Hour 2: sore throat

Hour 3: when the Fk did I gargle with battery acid!!!??

Hour 4: Is My head some how connected to the city water works??

Hour 5: I'm going to lie down.

Hour 6: get every blanket, jacket, sweater, dogbed, and any other semi flexible objects, and place them in a large pile on your bed...climb under pile.

Hour 7: Collect all the old paint cans from your garage and your neighbors also, while your at it put some fresh cream in a jar....place around you in bed...convulse until the cream stops sloshing about and you have fresh butter...

Hour 8: Violently remove all paint, and other Semi rigid items from ontop of your death pyre, lie naked on top of it all and watch as you rapidly become the best "soaker hose" $ can buy...remember to call insurance man for estimate on "flood damage" to the dry wall around your death bed...

Hour 9: become genuinely fearful that you are actually dying!

Hour 10 thru 18 repeat hour 6 thru 9 at irregular and totally random cycles

Hour 19: become genuinely fearful that you are NOT dying, and worse you lack the physical strength to move and kill your self!!!

Hour 20: Ask wife why she's home early (hopefully to kill me!) but instead she says something about battery acid...

realise that your entire lives depend upon your 13 yearold Son to nurse you, because you now require more time to move to the bathroom that a thirteen yearold girl at a Hannah Montanah concert does (and it's only 8 flippin feet from my bed)

repeat above for next 24 hours....return from two hour bathroom trip, and discover that your room smells like a High School Boys locker room after the big game!...actually I think the Locker room smells better.

Realize that you are so sick YOU DON'T CARE! splash back into bed and pray for an early death!!!

Discover that you CAN gross out a 13 YO Teenager! (when HE says it stinks BAD realize something must be done! and with any luck the effort will kill me dead!)

Convince moribund bride to move, change sheets, have boy child spray the room and his dying parents with lysol, frebreaze, airwick, heII Gasoline might kill the stench!

Now Continue that for two more days!!

that brings us to today...My temp is down to 100.6 and I'm sitting (kinda)

this is the 2nd time in 44 years that I have had the Flu...
And if I hear one more pipehead tell me that they had "a touch of the flu" over the weekend. I going to run them over with my truck, carry their broken body to the local Ice cream freezer, toss them in for an hour or so, then its off to the paint shop for a stay in their enamel bake oven, and I'm gonna keep doing that for 7-10 days...now if I can just figure out how to get them to produce the rainbow of colors that breathing /coughing produces.

The Flu (the real macoy) SUCKS People take precautions be safe and stay healthy....

now I'm going back to bed!

I had that kind of sh1t 30 years ago

It did, however, kill a two+ pack a day cigarette addiction.

I feel for you as I went through the same phase in December and it lasted a couple of weeks or so.
I had Kathy and a model friend of hers who was staying with us for a few weeks, mothering me.
I had never been so pampered in my life.

It hits me once in every five years or so, hopefully my next bout will be in 2013 again.

Get well soon!

"Pipehead" here...
It seems to hit everyone differently.
Just about every day someone else at work calls off sick with this. Some get the "God please take me now" version while others get a milder dose.
And, you can get it more than once! I'm on my second go round now. The record so far is 3. My boss was getting really upset with everyone calling off and then he got the "GPTMN" version. Changed his attitude real quick...

I was told there are more people in the hospitals than normal. It is a rough winter.

Interesting fact stolen from the "12 Flu Myths" on WEBMD...

"Aside from the short-term misery and lost workdays, flu can have more serious implications. Sure, most people who get the flu recover just fine. But the flu also hospitalizes 200,000 people in the U.S. each year. It kills about 36,000. That’s close to the number of women killed by breast cancer each year, and more than twice the number of people killed by AIDS."

Here are some tips to help keep you healthy and germ-free during these cold winter months:

Cold And Flu Prevention Tips

1. Sneezing into a handkerchief just redirects germs back at you. Always sneeze outward so as to shoot germs as far across the room as possible.

2. Pack your sinus cavities with Vicks Vap-O-Rub to fully mentholate your respiratory system.

3. Do not blow your stuffed nose into tissues—this is a myth! Always suck your phlegm into the back of your throat and swallow it in great, goblike mouthfuls.

4. You don't have to subject yourself to other people's germs. If you see someone who appears to have a cold or fever, contact your local police department.

5. To prevent infections, have sick people cough into your food. This light "inoculative" dose of germs will boost your body's defenses against a full-blown infection later.

6. If you are a sickly, anemic, weak person, you have a higher susceptibility to colds and flu. Try not to be such a pansy-******.

7. Sometimes, a severe respiratory infection will cause the lungs to fill with fluid. If this occurs, flush your lungs repeatedly with boiling hot water to clear them. A hose down your windpipe will help get around the gag reflex.

8. Make sure your HMO package covers visits to the Halls Of Medicine.

9. The flu is an extremely contagious, life-threatening disease. Flu sufferers should be either shot with a silver bullet or tortured to death by a professionally shriven, church-appointed excruciator.

10. To keep warm in the winter, replace your blood with mom's homemade chicken soup. Noodles should be no greater than one millimeter thick to prevent coronary blockage.

11. Remember: Your body produces phlegm for a reason. Always save your mucous, and keep it near you in jars at all times.

12. Germs generally enter the body through the skin. To protect you from infection, shave yours off.

13. Zinc and Vitamin C help fight colds. Vitamin C can be found in oranges, but zinc is a semi-precious metal found only in Africa. If symptoms persist, organize a jungle safari to seek out the fabled Zinc Mines of Sugolahara.

The flu vaccines produced this year did not anticipate this particular strain (DUH!). I had this crap over the holidays and into the New Year, and it took me two weeks to recover. The only thing I found which helped was a Z-Pack prescription. Do not 'wait' to get one; go now, or simply suffer longer. That's my advice.

Rob, I never get colds or flu either. BUT, I came down with some virus right after new year's that lasted for 3 WEEKS! Almost a whole week of that was in bed. I got over the virus, had a good week, then had a relapse. I was sick for two more weeks. I went to two doctors, discovered my flu had eventually turned into an upper respiratory infection. Combined with the normal allergies I have to deal with, it was pure he??. I also did the Z-pack and Nasacort. I was bouncing off the walls for two weeks from the steroids.

I think taking my one a day multi-vitamin three times a day is what helped turn things around.
