I can't believe this is such a problem. No aftermarket answers, no triumph answers. Why can I find a roadster size, quick disconnect shield for my bike. Had i known this bike would be such a pain to accessorize I don't think I would have bought it. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to put on and take off the roadster hardware. If it can be done in 15 min. or so I might go for it and put a clear view screen on it. Also how do the clearview screens them selves hold up.

I had a roadster screen briefly. I always struggled putting it on by myself. It helps to have a second person around. It is by no means a quick detach windscreen (well, maybe quick detach but not quick re-attach). But I ended up selling the roadster screen due to buffeting. I have a Windvest now and it's great.

The WindVest is a snap to install and remove, 10 minutes tops and that's if you're lazy and don't keep your allen wrenches organized (ask me how I know).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

I have read somewhere that the wind vest is great for reducing buffeting but that it doesn't provide much protection from the elements. I want to be able to ride in colder weather and I also do a lot of road trips with lots of miles. Will the wind vest keep me warm?

I went through this a while back...I wound up buying a set of upper fork shrouds from an 06 or older America/Speedmaster. The 07 and newer are tappered (which is the issue) and the 06 and older are straight. Once I got the straight uppers I got a Memphis Shades shield and can pop it on and off in less than five minutes...by myself. Getting the non-tappered shrouds: Bike Bandit (btw...expensive but theyd be new). Or...you can post in the classifieds and see if someone wants to sell theirs or trade for your tappered shrouds. its pretty easy.... * remove top nut * loosen bolts at top yoke * carefully remove top yoke assembly (no need to remove any cables)...it wont pull off easy, I had to shimmy it or use soft taps from a dead blow hammer. * slide shrouds off...use a touch of WD40 to lube the rubber boots. * reverse above.
note...if you have a lift its eaier to repalce the top yoke assembly cause it takes pressure off the front end. If not then lightly tap the top yoke into place if its sticking.

Waitaminit. The old straight shrouds will fit on the 07-08 bikes with tapered shrouds? How does that work? I assumed the top yoke would be different. Why else would they change the upper shrouds?

Appearance and proprietary windshields! I am always on the look for a fix...nothing yet except what Z did (and he sent me his old tapered shrouds to assist in finding an alternative-no luck yet)

The Clearview windshields are far better quality than Triumph. My Clearview Summer Screen replacement has never been off the bike for over a year and a half. No problems at all. I keep it waxed with Mother's Carnuba Cleaner Wax. The wax protects it and allows you to wipe the bugs off with a wet towel.

FJ...the shrouds are just covers for appearance. The forks are the same 41mm diameter forks that have been on the bike for who knows how long. As for the yokes...I have not seen a physical difference in any year top yoke (yet). The bottom yoke seems to have a better finish on newer bikes whereas on some of the early models it was as ugly as sin.

I'd pop for a Memphis Fats and swap out the shrouds, you'll still probably be cheaper than OEM and have far more convenience.

Yeah, I know the shrouds are there for appearance, I'm just surprised they changed them without changing anything else. Struck me as weird is all.

The shrouds are 140 bucks before you get started plus the memphis shades. do you still think it is worth it?

Heck yes, only $140 for the shrouds plus $250 for the Fats screen and mounts? That's still about $50 less than the crummy Triumph screen that doesn't come off quick. Still sounds like a bargain to me. Wish I'd have ditched my Roadster screen and went Fats a long time ago. Quote:

as to the Windvest, it isn't meant to stop a lot of wind or keep you warm. It just stops head buffeting at speed and maybe gives oncoming insects motion sickness when they do a loop-de-loop over your face. If you want to be warm on a bike - the America and Speedy aren't the bike for that.....

Before you go any further...check out eBay...looks like someone is parting out an America. Full shroud set is listed for $49 and change. eBay Thers also a Triumph screen for $99 and change... eBay otherwise.... I think the upper is the same and the lower is different. I cant be 100% sure since I am currently no where near my bike and wont be for the next week. The Bike Bandit price of $73.88 is for complete assemblies...shrouds plus upper and lower grommets. Be sure to call them before you order and see if ther is a part # difference between the different years. I know the picture shows non-tappered shrouds but beign 100% certain will save headaches in the long run. 31: ASSY,FORK SHROUD,UPPER,LH UPPER LH 5569253-001 Invalid $73.88 32: ASSY,FORK SHROUD,UPPER,RH UPPER RH 5569256-001 Invalid $73.88

Not a Speedy, but you get the idea. That's a 17" Fats screen. And a full view: Quote:

1) marks left on handlebars when its taken off. 2) easy on and off ability. 3) fit and finish (on some, the windvest is a nice piece)

Does anyone have a picture of thier bike with a ****** cat shade. I don't care for the look of the windvest and think I may do this until somebody comes up with a shade that is actually made for our o7-08 models.

I too have decided to settle for a memphis shade until someone makes a decent looking, quick removable shield that fits the 07 & 08 models. Here are my 2 cents: the hellcat looks really good on the America, not too big, not too small. It has just enough wind deflection and is high enough for you (I'm 5'-11")to look over. It definately keeps you from eating bugs and cuts the windnoise down. Also keeps the wind off your chest and reduces fatigue on long rides. However, It will not keep you warm. The only think I don't like is the quality of the hardware and the fact that it's not quickly removable. For a speedmaster, I would either get the windvest or the fly screen. Either one looks actually good on that bike. But that's just my humble opinion.

Here's another option http://www.parabellum.com/Used their shield on my 06 Bonneville T-100. Does a great job. Not a quick release. On the T-100 you couldn't use handlebar risers don't know if thats a problem on the America. They make a really top notch product and the folks are very helpful.

For all you windvest guys. Help me out here. For some reason I stuggle with the look. Show me your pics please. I here you say that there is no buffeting and at the same time I hear others say that it won't really protect me in cold temps. What is it that makes you love it so much that would help me get over the look.

Does anyone have the sports tech shield mounted on their bikes? If so what do you think and do you have pics. It looks similar to the windvest but I like the shap better. Question is does it work?

Member "greas" did, and had them posted in this windshield thread. Of course, with the Photo section down, they are not viewable. Maybe you can contact him directly to repost? I remember the screen and mounts looked pretty sharp. I wasn't interested in a small screen, but if so that one would be top of the list. Old Windscreen Thread Quote:

I just called Parabellum to ask about this screen. The lower mount is simple & you can see it on their website. The top mount is designed to clamp to the stock risers. The best picture of this setup is to look at the Ducati GT1000 page. There is an overhead shot showing the two stainless arms that attach to each front riser bolt. They supply a longer bolt as a replacement.
I'd like one, but I have 1 1/4" T drag bars, so no riser to bolt too. Does anyone know how much adjustability there is on these screens? I need to find a clamp for my bars that can take the place of the riser bolt.

Carefull on the Parabellum...The bike its mounted on has the older style non-tapered shrouds. I would definately call and make sure itll work on the newer tapered shrouds.

Working direct with a national screen manufacturer (and America owner) Let him know the delema and trying to find some options that will be workable. I'll keep you posted.

Here's a vote for the Triumph Summer Screen.
I had ordered and received the Triumph summer screen as part of the $1,200 promotion when I bought my '07 America last fall. I hadn't installed it because I wasn't sure I liked the looks of a screen. But with the way Spring is crawling into NE Ohio I HAD to ride yesterday or go crazy.
My opinion now - I think it's great! It's just the right size, and I think really enhances the look of the bike. The wind was blowing over the top of my helmut (I'm 5'10") and the ride was just what i needed. The lightly ghosted Triumph logo at the bottom of the screen is a nice touch as well.
The way that the brackets fit is not intrusive, and if I do want to remove the screen and the two lower "obvious" brackets it will only take about 5 minutes.
Whoever wrote the instruction manual for the screen should be shot. Then shot again. Perhaps a third time as well. If there was a way to make a VERY simple process confusing they managed to do that and in only two pages. This first install took about an hour. If I had to do it again it would take barely 20 minutes.
So overall, a big recommendation for the Triumph product.
