As a two-time North Carolina graduate, I have been particularly moved by this story. Two supposed gang members brutally murdered the 22 year old Student Body President of the University of North Carolina last week. She was shot 3 times, once to the right temple, while innocently going to print some course work for an exam.

The one week anniversary of her murder is today, and both of these "men" are in custody. Words alone cannot describe the promise this young lady had. All she had done was earn a full academic scholarship, earn a 4.0GPA, and rise to the highest student office at the school. Oh, and she gave back to her community and all humankind in more ways in 22 years than I will my entire life. A very sad commentary on the human condition. Just heartbreaking. It is at times like these that I lose a little more faith in God. I had very little with which to begin.

Death by hanging needs to be reinstituted. That lethal injection stuff just does not have the same impetus.

Nothing like the sound of an evil body hitting the end of a rope after a requisite drop. (never witnessed it of course) but it
d be fun to watch it done to a truly deserving party.

ALLEGED killers. Presumed innocent until proven guilty. Once proven guilty, broken by the wheel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaking_wheel) would be my choice in such cases.

To be honest, and Wendy and I were just talking about this, I would rather be hanged than lethal injection if it were me. If hanged correctly your neck breaks and severs the brain stem and you die instantly. I'll go with the wheel for these guys.

The guy who murdered the woman and spread her body parts all along the highway near me ,I posted about before,was caught. They found her hands in his house and he is claiming he was framed.

Your right about hanging generally being a quick death but its has more audience impact. I think that is perhaps why it was in such good use historically worldwide. The French of course used the guillotine for many many years.

I do know that hanging although the method of choice in the old West here in the states sometimes resulted in grisly happenstance when the drop was too much based on the body weight of the hangee. Heads would pop off as a result of the dynamic force of an overly obese hangee hitting the end of the rope. I imagine that sent a gasp of horror through the gallery.

In the old USSR (maybe still in the new republics), the condemned was sent to prison without a date of execution. He never knew when the sentence would be carried out, and there were no witnesses besides the guards and executioner - sometimes the guards WERE the executioners. One night, or morning, or afternoon, maybe weeks or months or even a year after sentencing, he would be summarily escorted out of his cell, and that would be it. BOOM! Never heard from again except for an announcement in the newspaper. Hey, I'm not saying this was a better way than we do it, but it seemed to work pretty well for them...

What a useless shame and terrible ending to a wonderful girl's life. I too always have those thoughts of WHY when horrendous and cruel things happen to such good people.

This was a high profile case but for some reason I didn't see much on the news about the capture of these two peices of #%^&*.

Pesonaly, I think the appropriate punishment would be hanging, drawing, and quartering if they are found guilty of this.

I think if proven guilty beyond doubt they should hang, I mean why sling them in jail to keep them living when it is costing the tax payer. Don't they think it's cost enough looking for the scum in the first place

They showed pictures of the cops bringing the guy in, he was completely out of his mind on something, he could not even walk.

I'm afrid the do gooders will get involved and it will cost the tax payers millions keeping these two guys alive both were out of jail on probation when the killed that young lady.

They are going to make these two guys victims.

By the time they are done with them they will be up for sainthood.

I agree with Bucky chain them to a tree in a swamp and come back in a few days for what ever remains.

I think that there should be a special clause in the legal system, called the "monster clause". People who commit crimes like this are not "human" in the sense of the word that we understand it. They are nothing more than animals who are capable of a minimal amount of fitting in with society, are heartless and appear to have no reedemming social value. They are outside the human pale, hence they are "monsters". Although I can not really condone "cruel and unusual punishment" for these monsters, somehow it is less than satisfying to see them suffer a painless death. But death is surely what they deserve. I kinda like the "Russian style" as set above.

On a related note. Although I am for capital punishment for some crimes, do not for a minute think that public death is a deterent. History relates to us the strange truth. In jolly old Elizabethan England, when criminals were hanged for pickpocketing, the most profitable day for pickpockets was execution day, due to the large crowds! The criminal mind can just not believe that "they" will be caught.

It's OBVIOUSLY society's fault that these youths felt so disenfranchised that their alleged crime was a cry for help. They were expected to go to school to learn both academic and social skills to equip them for gainful employment in society and yet when they do graduate - they are expected to get a job, get there on a regular basis and to WORK !!!

No wonder the poor souls drop out of school and then have to resort to crime to get money for their drugs because the welfare system won't pay for them !

And you want them executed ! YOU ARE SICK !

.... hang them upside-down and let their intestines slowly seep into their throats. This does take awhile and the
individual normally passes out and dehydrates first, but the victim's family could keep the animal hydrated intravenously during the process and aware by elevating the object's head periodically to ensure blood flow to the brain ....

God had nothing to do with this. Put the blame where it belongs. On those two thugs. They deserve the hardest punishment the state can give them. It's called justice. That's what's wrong with this country now. It's not about justice but about how good you can twist the law.:(

Murder demands an equal penalty. Execution should be an option, but one where the guilt is clear. Then the execution should be televised.

televised and swift, not 20 years later when the memory of the crime has faded.

It's good thing most bikers I know believe in some sort of afterlife, otherwise I know a lot of folks that would be in jail for helping rid the planet of lowlife scum like those two.
Since we can't get trash like that out of the way, God will.
I'd like to hear their worthless excuses then!
