Man, you gotta think about a different wife, with her attitude. Plan "B", the next time she needs a bike, stick a harley sticker on it and tell her it's a HD. 5 bucks says she won't know the difference! (Just humor, no intention of personal slight!)(See old previous post, "harley girl story".)

The price was good. Rather like the 6 month old Velocette I bought very cheap because the original owner didn't know how to start it.

Got a few Triumphs because people couldn't fix or time them.

Nothing wrong with having a collection of bikes. And if one was to have a collection, then it goes without saying that there should be a Harley or two in it. You will just have to explain to your good lady wife that bike collections must be allowed to grow. and grow, and grow, and grow

Triumph too wide?! Never sat on a girls bike but any shovel or pan I ever sat on was as wide or wider.
Ya know I have been a biker my whole life and among real bikers the knocking is in jest. You get the clueless here and there but for the most part Triumphs are welcomed and in many cases admired at HD oriented events and I do like Hardleys if the truth be known, just not my bike of choice. It is the bike of choice for most of my friends and they have had some nice ones. One of my 1%er friends even said he would ride my BMW and likes it. For the most part any cool old bike is OK. But it has always ,from what I have seen, been a mix of Hardley,Trumpet,Beezer,Snortin Norton,Vincent, and very few AJS,Matchless,Ariel etc.. (frinds don't let friends ride rice.

Too bad you weren't local I saw an complete front end at a farm show. Trees,legs,21"wheel ,caliper, and fender. No handle bars or anything from the bars. $400. Not sure if he still has it I gave the guys number to a friend who is building a pan. Was a narrow sporty front end but he doesn't have much cash and a narrow can be made wide with new trees and wheel spacers.

See that? You are already getting into that Harley owner thing! Next thing you know, you'll be getting an overpowering craving for latte.

you are right grey beard i actually commented to my cuz why not trailer our bikes to faro week and wear T-shirts saying I TRAILERED MY BIKE TO FARO 08 the reason for this is the front wheel is buckled beyond repair by the way taking off all the chome covers on the sportster was 10 kilos of weight saved that was including the crash bars and highway pegs still have some more to come of i reckon 12 to 14 kilos will be lost on my anorexic diet i have her on and easily 10 to 15 kph more top end (well maybe not) one thing i am finding hard to get used to is this non metric cr-p 5/8th this 2/16th that does my head in and rounds my nuts and bolts which means more expense on bits i didnt need oh well we shall plug on

Yup, there's an old saying that less weight = free horsepower. The nice thing is you might be able to sell some of that stuff and buy even more power.
I have the opposite problem, trying to remember if 1/2 inch is 12 or 13. I think 14 is 9/16, but not sure of that. I do better with Whitworth sizes.

project tractor up-date wheel £100 fender front 20 euros pegs 10 euros forks 210 euros tyre on new wheel 20 euros around 300 quid spent so far and when the bits are fitted she will be rideable just gotta get forks out clean them polish them and fit with the new tubes paint the disc and fender coz the front fender is yella and i might get some nearly new switches in black to replace the crap chrome ones and yokes (triple trees for our yank friends) which my mate wants £35 for hopefully less than £500 thats what i budget for this build just to get her road worthy so far so good i should be riding it within the next month saying that i still have ole faithfull bonnie so i'm not bothered from what the word is out there i could get rid of it for £4000 as they hold there value around these parts thats £1500 profit makes me think not bad for a few afternoons in the sun with my cuz havin a beer or two wrenching on the bike oh i've had to buy new tools like torques and imperial spanners and allen keys they will go into the tool roll as i will need them on the road for sure will keep you posted on the progress

Tools are always a good investment anyway. I wouldn't count them in the cost.
