Got my new Metzlers on my America today, 110/80-18 Lasertec in front and 170/80-15 ME880 Marathon rear. Looks great but I wonder about the tire pressure. The manual says 31/36 for the America with Bridgestones and 36/36 for the Metzlers on the Speedmaster.
The weight of the bikes are the same so I think I should go with 36/36. Any ideas?

Those lbs air pressure are just about what I use, If I go higher than 38 lbs in rear tire bike is too bouncie almost bucking. Just a little tale two months after picked up 06 TBA was out riding, did not see the bump in the road where black top was machined off talk about bucking, I almost feel off.

tire pressure with those tires should be 36/36...that is what comes on the speedmaster stock.

go to 36/36

This may be a dumb question, but why do the same size tires require more pressure? I currently have the stock Bridgestones and run 32/36 and have gotten very good wear. I plan to eventually go to the Metzlers like stock now, but with tubes. The front tire would need to be 36 like the rear. Just curious.

Without going into a chemistry and physics discourse, suffice it to say that tires are engineered differently by different manufacturers. Simply put, a tire is designed to have a desired shape while in operation. Air pressure is the final determinate.
