My first motorcycle ride was on an 850 Commando. Boy, those pipes are sexy!

I'm shocked that bike didn't sell for buy it now, never mind didn't go over $7,700. I see those bikes in stock form get close to that. Seems like the 1975's are bringing the big money, final year, bulletproof 850,left side(non reverse pattern)shift, dual brakes. Maybe just another sign of the times.

I had a Norton that looked just like that, but not in as good as shape. Was a great cycle. That is one ****** of a restoration. I love the polishing (or chroming).

Really nice looking bike, they go for silly money over here, especially the Dominator 500cc

Anyone ever seen one of the 2005 and newer Nortons that are made in Portland, OR in person? They look beautiful in the glamour shots they have on the website...

Yes, one was on display at the Larz Anderson classic bike show in Brookline MA a couple years ago. Seems the primary investor in Kenny Dreer's (unfortunate) failed bid to resurrect the marque was an anonymous Norton nut from here in MA. I'm sure anyone who followed this 8 year progression toward failure shares my despair. On the bright side, makes my cafe racer that much more rare.

yeah, that really makes me sad that Dreer couldn't get that business together. I'm sure it was frustrating. That 961 Commando was a gorgeous bike, and for the prices they were asking, I would have snapped one up (the regular ones not the signature series). You have to wonder how successful that bike would have been as a $20k custom that didn't have the Norton name on it. I'm pretty sure they couldn't have sold it at that price as a 10-15 a year hand built bike....
That black and anodized gold scheme was bad-******....
