Hi all. New guy here. I just picked up my new '05 America and after 15 miles to home the left pipe is starting to discolor already. I obviously have to take the bike back but does anyone know if the pipe will be replaced under warranty? I know some like the blueing but I want no part of it. I like the chrome with no blueing.

I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger......and then it hit me. '05 BA - Mulberry/Graphite,128 mains,42 pilots,TBS needles,drilled slides,debaffled stock pipes,Uni,no snorkel

Ride it, be proud of it, it comes with the bike.

Jerry: Have your pipes blued?

Hi Rick,
First thing - remove your air injection system. A great kit is available from Brent for less than $25. Then tune in here to be tempted. We will have you squeaking every ounce of power out of your bike for a minimal amount of money.

Left pipe as you sit on the bike? Just for sh!ts and giggles, take a look at your speedo cable... is there a mildly scorched spot on it?

Other wise as was already said, get the AI removal kit...decide if your keeping the stock silencers or going with an aftermarket set and then everyone here will be MORE than helpful with you in assisting you with getting the carbs dialed in or ya can take it back to the dealer for tweeking.

Uh for what it's worth I don't care for blued pipes either... well I take that back. If they are unshielded headers then let 'em look like a peacock and ride it with pride. But as far as I'm concerned if you are dealing with a shiny shielded pipe... as in shielded so it WON'T turn blue then blue ain't no good.

Hi Nologic
You must remove the A1 from your bike, its a peice of junk thats not needed. not having the A1 will reduce the chance of any more blueing on your pipes.
I also had this problem that was also on the left side, with blueing pipes after only riding about 2000km . I returned it to my Triumph dealer who said sometimes the header sleaves have been to close to the pipe inside them. he contacted Triumph who agreed, and yes the header pipe was replaced under warranty. i had no more problem, but i have still removed the A1. one other advantage with the A1 gone you can get to your spark plugs with no hassle.

You probably also need to reset the fuel/air mixture screws on the carbs. They are set super-lean from the factory. The air-injection and lean carb settings are giving you the blues. I'm not a fan either. I'd ask the dealer:
1. Fix air/fuel mixture screws (if they haven't already). A lot of dealers do this under setup, as they should but many more do not.
2. Remove that air-injection ASAP. The dealer may caution you against this move, do it anyway. With the AI in, you will always have blue (and than brown) pipes. Don't ride it until the AI is off. NewBonneville.com or Bella Corse each sell nice eliminiation kits.

Fix these two issues and you are in business. Welcome to the list.

Thanks guys. I ordered the AI removal kit and won't be riding it until I get that done. I'll call my dealer and ask about replacing the pipes and setting the carbs. I also noticed that I have a small oil leak that will have to be taken care of also. It will be pure hell having the bike sit in the garage waiting for the kit though.

nologic,
Don't remember where I copied this from, but it works perfect and is cheap/fast. Thanks to the author.

Inexpensive AI Removal
Hey folks, just got done removing the noose from ’round my Beastie’s neck, and only cost me about $10 (for 2 M12x1.25 Drain Plugs Part Number 65214, $2.49 each, 1 Tube Copper Anti-seize $2.98, and 1 box generic 3/16" Vacuum Port Plugs Part Number 47391, $1.99, all from Advance Auto, but probably the same at AutoZone or Napa, or any other chain auto parts place) I downloaded the instructions from this site (link below), and made 2 minor mods.
Some tips:
1. Unbolt the Reed Valve after loosening the 2 clamps on the rubber hoses going from the Air Injector tubes to the Reed Valve. Once you take out the two Reed Valve mounting screws, you can slide it forward, and pop it easily out of the ends of the two rubber hoses.
2. I did have to destroy the two compression clamps that hold graphite filled compression fitting (between the short black elbow and chrome injector nozzles) to get the fitting and black elbows off, only because I didn’t have a 13mm Open end that would fit down into the opening to loosen them. If you have such a small 13mm open end, then you won’t have to do this. Either way, new clamps are very cheap if I want to reinstall later.
3. I cut about 1/4" of the tip of the M12x1.25 drain plugs off (it was just a non-threaded guide section anyway, no threads removed) to make them the same length as the threaded section of the Air Injector Nozzles, just to be on the safe side.
4. Instead of removing the big 3/4" air hose from the Air Intake box to the Reed Valve, I just bent over the last 2", and tie wrapped it shut. Very simple, very effective. If I happen to need to reinstall the system, the hose is still there, or if I stumble across just the right size bung to fill that hole in the airbox, I’ll replace the clamped off hose, either way, no one is the wiser from looking at the bike. And the drain plug bolts look like they actually belong, they look like they are fastening the cylinder jugs to the crankcase. Total time to do this was 2 hours 21 minutes, but that included time to run to 2 different parts stores to get the drain plugs (naturally one store was short one on their inventory), run by Wendy’s to grab lunch, and babysit my two little boys at the same time!!! So real work time was probably 1 hour easy, and not real challenging at all. Maybe some day I’ll go back an buy the cool bolts with the Union Jack engraved in the head, maybe not. Will post photos. Oh, by the way, why didn’t someone tell me this thing had spark plugs, found ’em tucked in behind the AI Injector tubes!!! And all this time, I thought this thing was a diesel!!!! Hmmm!! OH, and I haven’t touched the screws yet, that is next, but the popping is almost completely gone, what little I hear is when I stand over the bike with my head next to the end of the pipes, and gun it! Oh, and the instruction (thanks to Jenks!!!!!) were very straightforward, very easy to follow.

Also, fill in your bio, at least where abouts you're located. When we give you all this great FREE info we expect you to provide us with free beer when we stop in unannounced.
