Hey Brothers & Sisters,
I am against "trailering a bike", but this is acceptable as long as we have a cover over the "Triumph" emblem (in my book). Found in "RoadBike" magazine. This is a ramp for your bike to get it in your pickup and doubles as a bed extender:
Ready Ramp
I will get the 1000 pound model for $279 so I can ride my bike onto my GMC Sonoma. First, I have to mow my backyard to find my truck. JCWhitney has a pickup tent for $180. This will enable us to do the long rides with ease. I may cancel the Trail of Tears ride (with 150,000 other riders) and attend the New England rally at Dinqua's place. But if Rick Mayer finishes my seat, I would ride to NewYork to check the seat out (rick is doing the Iron Butt Rally this month and is taking no orders).
If you get a ReadyRamp - be sure to pick up a "Halloween" cover - the orange and black will let everyone know it's not a Triumph you are hiding.
Ride Safe,
Dennis

Being as the ramp is not wide enough for your bike and you
what do you do when the bike gets up another couple of feet
(ref pic on website)? It would be easy enough to ride it up but I don't have the testes to ride it down.

Yeah, backing my bike down a uhaul ramp was scary enough!!! Yikes. Gott be REAL straight. I've seen other ramps that are essentially double-wides that fold in half, seems like a good idea.

Big Warm Fuzzys!!!
For goodness sakes - you ride a motorcycle. Just ride up the ramp and coast down (i close my eyes). I've never had a problem. Trust me, it's over b'fore you know it!!! You can always coast it down by hand.
I am getting one after I get back from Oklahoma or Pat's place. I really want to go to the New England Rally...... It will be a blast, but I will ride my bike. Yahoo says it's a 952 mile trip. A couple out of the way swings will get me over 1000 miles. That's an Iron Butt certificate. I've got a real nice butt - might as well have it cast in iron.

Dennis

Putting a dirtbike into a pickup is one thing. Getting a big road burner loaded is another. If anything goes wrong it could sure get ugly in a hurry! The height of the truck (2WD or 4WD) makes a big difference too. I'd say do whatever you need to do to insure the safety of you and your bike. If it takes a ramp the width of the tailgate...go for it. A trailer is a safer option, although less convenient on the road...but not everyone has a trailer. Good luck.

Danny,
I've done it before. It's not that bad. Riding up is not a problem, just keep the revs up and go. Coming down however, even the best of us want to slow down - that's bad. To get down, you have to push back a little and leave the brake alone. Once your feet leave the end of tailgate, there's no turning back - but it's not that far to go by that point. It's like rappeling, when you swing out over the 300 feet of exposure to slide down your rope. It's just scary. If your bride (or sweetie) is with you, she can get it moving back by hand, then let you hold it until she can dismount the truck - and two can handle it nicely.
Unload Safely,
Dennis

If you truck up this way, I have a very nice spot on my lawn that is great for loading bikes/snowmobiles/ATVs onto a truck. It is almost flat where you can back a truck to the side of this little hill/incline and ride it right on/off by yourself very safely. Done it with lots of stuff many times on my truck.
