Went for a ride today - with my new sunglasses. Problem was that when inside my helmet with the face shield down, I get a holographic effect of colors that is pretty disconcerting - particularly when going in and out of sun and shade. I think its the polarization. May have to take them back and have them remade w/out the polarization - I like having my prescription in them (getting older sucks!) and they go into my helmet very nicely. They are Maui Jims the rimless style and titanuim metal - so are bendy and very light - they don't move around in my helmet. None of the el cheapo sunglasses I have do this rainbow holographic effect. Any other thoughts or observations? Thanks guys!!!!
(and YESSSSS I got to ride today for the first time since November!!!! - 60F and sunny! WOO HOO)

You nailed it. Polarization makes for weird effects when looking through plastic. I don't know why, but I'll bet someone does. .
Alright!! The weather breaks in Flag. Maybe winter's done.
High 70s here for the last week. Very nice.

Yeah, Wade. I see why you posted that link.
From the site: "In 1866 H. von Helmoltz related the effect to dichroism of a pigment of the retina and this early explanation has proven well founded, although the exact mechanism is complicated and a full explanation is still lacking."

Off Topic Time -- Inventor of the polarized lens, instant film, and the guy who took radar technology off the top shelf & offered it up to the masses in an affordable format [via the SX-70 camera campaign-] Good ol' Edwin Land http://quotes.maxabout.com/authors/e/edwin_land.aspxHe did pretty well for himself for a guy who never finished college.
