Thanks to everyone's posts and welcome! Thanks for the correction on my bike's colors.. I didn't know our bikes were called "TRUMPETS" but that's what being on the site is all about right? Learning new things....
To all of you that I met this past weekend - hope to see you all on the March 9th ride...

I've also heard "Turnips"! But that's usually after some beer, and after a turnip has smoked a hardley.

Ok, so I finally gave in....I bought a new helmet!! Woo hoo!! No more tiki jokes, flower jokes, etc... I got the same helmet that Odatbob has in all black, so if you have a problem with it, take it up with Bob!! LOL

And my fiancee is at the range right now taking her MSF class as I post this and she has officially taken over the Hawaiian/Tiki/Camo helmet, so it's definitely in good hands. :-)

Nice guy...give a new rider a used lid. Plus, it's a man's helmet, so now are you saying your sweety has a big man-like head?? Or, dare I say, is it the opposite regarding your head!!

Cheers Kirk!! I hope she enjoys the MSF course. Will she be joining us, as a passenger, on the ride next weekend?

We'll see. I know she had a great first day on the range. After talking to her, she wants to start off with a smaller bike and actually likes the 250 Honda Rebel she's been on, but we'll see what she wants to get.

Hi Amy - thanks for the welcome... I would love to say that Triumph Fest is in the cards for me this year... I have to get some more mileage under my belt before getting enough nerve to go to Arizona... It's an annual event right? That would be a great goal for me next year.

Karen -
This year is the 2nd annual SW Triumph Fest - and you guys would be very welcome next year (I'm sure Dwight won't mind me ...um....volunteering him for the 3rd Annual), if you don't make it this year!!!! And yes we need more girls - both on here and out riding!!!!
Ride safe and HAVE FUN!
Becky

Kirk,
For what it's worth, my TBA IS my starter bike and I have had no real issues with handling her. Yep, have made a few mistakes, stalled a bunch of times (before the Bubs) and taken a few turns a little too wide (especially riding up to Mt. Rainier).

If she still wants a small used beater bike, check out Bent Bike (Lynnwood and Auburn), they tend to have some bikes for that purpose, plus some of the gear is priced pretty fairly: http://www.bent-bike.com/

Best to go look at what they have in the lot. Their online list tends not to be current.

Steve

Yeah, I've checked out Bent Bike before, great store. My buddy has purchased about 4 bikes from them over the years. Well, after talking to her, she really wants that little 250 Rebel, she's comfortable on it and that's what really matters. Been looking around and you can pick up a 3-4 year old one for only around $2K, so not a big budget buster. But we will definitely take a look up there.

When I was taking the class, I too thought I wanted a 250 to start with.. I thought it would be the an easy way to get use to riding, I could handle the weight, it was comfortable etc... etc....
BUT, after about 2-3 weeks of riding a 250, I'd be bored and looking for another bike w/ more power and one that will allow me to keep with Z. The America was a PERFECT first bike for me.

Yeah, I hear ya, but my fiancee is pretty set on that. She has never been into speed or power for a bike, she just wants to kick back and have something light and nimble, so the Rebel fits the bill.
