I want to put drag bars on my 2006 America. I would like chrome risers also. Any sugestions? New speedmaster has chrome risers for America, which will not work if I put drag bars on (i'll have to lean over to much). The Speedmaster ones are brushed alluminum. What is the diameter of my bars? Can I use risers that the Harleys use?

We have 1" bars on our bikes. Any HD or 1" bar will work but if you're going for drag bars you'll need some taller risers than the America standard height or you'll foul the tank. I swapped to Speedmaster drag bars and risers on my America and I think the risers are 3" but I've never measured them (that's just eyeballing them by memory). HD risers use a 1/2" bolt and the stock mounting hole is 10mm so you'll either have to bite the bullet and drill them out or get some adapters like the ones Scootworks sells.

Risers are available on Ebay very cheap,$40 with the cap included and some even cheaper depending what you are looking for. Like ED said you will be getting HD risers with 1/2" thread in them and the stock hole in the top tree is 10mm. So either adapters or drill tree.

I put Superbars on my America with the stock risers. Plenty of clearance. Stock mirrors gave me an excellent view of my shoulders, switched to Napoleon bar end mirrors. Aftermarket bars won't have the threaded insert in the ends.

I changed the stock painted risers on my Speedmaster with chrome Harley aftermarket items. Centres of risers are conveniently the same so risers with one piece top caps will fit. Various heights available from Custom Chrome, Drag Specialities or Zodiac so you should be able to find one to suit you. Sorry, should have confirmed that you need to make or get some bushes to reduce the riser thread from 1/2" unc to 10mm. I made mine from a piece of 1/2" unc bolt to get the outside thread and drilled and tapped inside 10mm. You could of course drill the yokes.

Clarifications: SM risers are 4" (recollection), & made of stainless. Like the aluminum yokes, they can be polished if you get rid of the coating. That's pretty labor intensive though, as stripper won't cut it. I note there's a lot of enthusiasm for SM bars, drag bars, T bars on the BA & I like 'em too. The lower (4") risers and straight riser sections in T bars are scarce to nonexistent, though. These folks in NZ have been mentioned a couple of times as a possible source: http://www.thehandlebarcompany.com/

I too am replacing my stock SM risers with HD deuce pullbacks and using an adapter stud like Dog and ED mentioned. (10mm to 1/2). The links are below to what I happend to buy. I will have to move my throttle cable to the right side of the tree&tank as others have mentioned that it is not quite long enough for use with these pullbacks. There is a previous thread about this I think. Adapter stud Risers

Yes, they're 4" straight risers, but they're made of aluminum, not SS. The brushed finish may give them a SS appearance, but they're not.

Not that it'll matter that much to anyone, but my 2nd hand speedmaster risers are sure enough stainless. The brushed look came from the 2 part mettalic/clear coating. If it's of interest, a person could just pop a cap off & see. The ones I have after sanding coating off & polishing:

Well I'll be darned, I stand corrected. Please forgive my ignorance! I would have never guessed them to be SS.
